Couple of Questions. Excuse me for being a total retard.

Well what causes brake dust. I changed out my front a rear pads a couple of months ago, and I could swear that I have the smoked rims on the front of the Titan. Is the dust caused by cheap pads? Because the guy at AutoZone really talked up the pads that I got for replacements. I ended up going with the Duralast Gold Cmax Ceramic pads. And also is there any type of adjustment that I can make to the pedal to "stiffen" it up? I think that at one time there was a TSB on it, but can't seem to find it anywhere. I believe that the adjustment is somewhere underneath the dash close to the pedal. I've got plenty of stopping power, just got a "gooshy" pedal.

How long have you had the pads on and did you bed them in? I also have a gushy pedal but it's always been softer then other vehicles I've owned and I've even bled mine trying to firm it up.

Well I put them on around mid March. And I guess bed them in. I drove slowly (5 to 10)MPH going down the driveway, stopping, going slow, stopping for about a 1/2 to a 1/4 of a mile. This is the first time that I have ever done a brake job on the Titan. I've changed them out on the wife's Xterra a couple of times when we had it.

This will explain bedding in http://www.titantruckz.com/kb/index.php?article=10 and since the Titan came stock with Semi-metallic pads I'm wondering if the Rotors aren't happy with the ceramic pads? When I did my fronts I changed both the pads and rotors and no dust.

Well from reading the bedding procedure, I should have went a little faster than 5 to 10 mph. Maybe the ceramic is the case. I've had the brake judder issue fixed on 3 seperate occasions, and never had this much brake dust build up.

I'd try bedding them in first and see if this doesn't change the dust problem. How did the rotors look when you changed the pads, any grooves or ridges?

May try the bedding procedure this weekend and see if that solves it. I'm thinking that it's the ceramic now. The rears are semi-metallic and there is no brake dust build up on the rear wheels. The rotors looked surprisingly well. No ridges or grooves on any of them except for the driver rear and it had a very minimal ridge to say the least. I'm sure that I'll have to replace the rotors on the next brake change. Didn't you upgrade to a aftermarket rotor and pads on the Fast Black XE? I've been hearing alot about EBC rotors and pads. Wonder if they are any count?

I went with Carbotech pads and Powerslot rotors Carbotech Bobcat Brake Pads and Powerslot Rotor Review. and I'm very happy with them. If we would have been towing a TT every weekend I would have went with the Stillen setup but since I wasn't and didn't get larger tires and wheels these were better then stock but didn't break the bank. For her next life there will be larger tires and wheels so Stillen here I come.

Well I left plenty early this morning going to work and did the bed in procedure on a long stretch of dead highway. I did this about 6 times, and the brakes feel alot better. They slow me down quicker and the pedal doesn't seem as "gooshy". Maybe this will cure the brake dust issue as well. Thanks Squid!

The "gooshy" feeling is a factor of the brake booster and the system design. I don't like it now and never have. I personally like a system that has initial bite/grab when the pedal is first pushed. Nissan and the system designer wanted a system that allowed the driver to press the pedal easily and the damn computer would jump in with "driver assist" if the computer determined that more pedal pressure was required in an emergency. I hate it and I also know it will take more than new rotors and pads to completely fix it.
Does anyone know if later model, ie '08 and later have better feeling brakes??
