Pop pop pop...OH NO!

OH...MAN, I've had better days!

First off, how you all doing these days. Haven't been on the foum for a h3ll of a long time!

Now for the cr@ppy news! Just blew out my rear diff this morning. I thought I was going to be lucky and not have this issue. Backed out of my driveway, put it in drive and pop pop pop pop... then it just locked up. Got it over to the curb but that was it.

Now what... I've call my dealership and I'm waiting to here back. When I bought the truck back in 04, I bought the extended warrantee just in case. I have 67,000. What do you guys think? Do I have any options here cuz a 2500-3600 rear end just isn't in the picture right now.

Any advice is appreciated!

When I replaced my diff with a True-Track, I kept the original pumpkin. If you want it we can work out a deal for shipping plus $50. It does not include the ring and pinion gear, those would have to be salvaged from your diff. Mine is an '05 and it had low miles on it.

Thanks Red... but I had my old 04 steel cover exchanged out for the newer fined cover years ago.

Just this morning I took her in to get worked on. I got a quote yesterday from my dealership and they wanted $3500.00 to get her back on the road Talked to Hooli and he hooked me up with a somewhat local shop that'll regear, trutrac, CV boot, parts and labor for a lot less than just the diff being replaced. They also gave me a tour of the place which I thought was not only pretty darn cool but great customer service since they showed off there work!

Hey P-Bear, I think you mis-understood me. I wasn't offering the differential cover for sale. I was offering all the gears inside, except the ring and pinion gear.
But it sounds like you've got a decent deal lined up. Good luck.

Ya I misunderstood big time! Thanks for the offer that would have be pretty cool. I do feel I'm getting it done right and feel good about who's doing the work. They were going to look for a used gear set but I opted for a new set, didn't want to take a chance. One of the guys that Hooli and I have gone out 4x4ing with works at this shop and they've done a ton of work on his Titan too among others Titan so they know what there doing.

Again, thanks for the offer Red!

UPDATE: Pop pop pop...OH NO!

So this was interesting...

It wasn't my diff that went out. The garge took off the diff cover and said it looked perfect inside so what the heck was going on.... it was my E-Brake that exploded and ripped up everything. Not sure how it happened, even the place I took it to has never seen this before? What I think happened was "maybe" one of the springs that hold the E-brake poped or stretched so that it hit the inside of the rotor. It basically wore down to metal and started to disinagrate and broke my ABS sensor and locked up my wheel making the popping noise? There was nothing left so I had to replace the rotor, which was prefectly fine on the outside but the inside was grooved up really bad.

I'm glad it wasn't the diff but scary that the E-brake would do this. I don't even use the E-brake, never really worked anyway!

I'll post images later if anyone is interested in seen the aftermath!

Of course we're interested in pics.
Glad it wasn't the differential, and you are right, the e-brake is not very effective no matter how it is adjusted..

A prime time to be glad the diagnosis was wrong.....

Glad you didn't have to replace your rear end...
