Attn: Red Alert-Towing Question

Red, Did you ever put air bags on your truck?
If so what did you get?
Did your Hellwig swaybar fit ok with the air bags?
What size is your TT and what does it weigh?

Contrary to popular opinion, I do not own a TT (Travel Trailer). I did not put on the air-bags, though I've always planned on doing so, thus I cannot answer about mounting conflicts or not.

I've done extensive research on towing, for my own knowledge and felt willing and capable of passing on the results of my research. I've found many helpful sites and products both on the Webb and at the numerous RV shows I've attended. Hopefully, I've only offered information supported by industry experts. I've only added personal opinion when I've personally witnessed the event or product.

There is still a TT in my future, just not yet. It all hinges on my ability to get what I need out of my home sale. Currently, I've kept it off the market because of the depressed market and I'm not being pushed by time sensitive issues. I feel the market will come back to the seller eventually.

I hope no one feels I've mislead them as that was never my intent.

Hey Red, Not a problem, you have not misled, I misunderstood...

Be that as it may- We will be having a new addition to the family by the end of the week that will be towed from Oregon to Montana for Taiga-Dogs habitat. It is on the large size for the Titan at 25' length and 7000 lbs dry weight. Ideally we would have chosen something smaller for traveling or camping, but living in a smaller unit for the next 5-12 months would be too cozy.

An Easy-Lift hitch, air bags and a Prodigy brake control will fill out the Titan (she already has load range E tires).

We have made this trip before just last summer with my truck and the route is not too bad. There is only one little hill between us and our destination, the Rocky Mountains!

Well, that is about the size I intended on getting. What brand? I was planning on an Arctic Fox.

Please take the time to get it weighed at a truck scales. Double check the tongue weight. Manufacturers and dealers are known to gloss over the weight issue to make a sale.

Too little tongue weight will make the trailer wag the truck.

A very good source of RV info is available at:

RV.Net : RV.Net - The Leading RV Community, Club, RV Travel and Information Source for Recreational Vehicle Camping

Good luck and safe driving.

Hi Red,

We got an Arctic Fox 25P. Northwood Manufacturing

We chose the Arctic Fox because I will be living and working in eastern Montana for a year.... yes, I am a transient! I definitely wanted a four-season trailer. I'll be 140 miles east of Billings and not far from North Dakota. There aren't many rentals out there so getting the trailer made sense. We got a great deal on it. We picked it up last Friday and took it up and over the Cascades on Saturday to to try things out. The Titan did just fine. We'll be heading out on Sunday or Monday.

As time goes on and you/ve had a chance to get to know your new AF, I'd appreciate hearing from you on your impressions of quality, design, and any other impressions you care to share.

ORTitan-

I have a 30' Jayco that's around 7500lbs. loaded for camping. I've been pulling this TT around for a couple of years now and have had no issues at all even with my lift and larger tires... well maybe one issue, gas milage!

My setup is the prodigy brake system along with the Equal i-zer hitch (1200). No air bags at all. Also the Equal-i-zer doesn't use an extra sway bar, it's a 4 point system so the sway bars are built into the weight distribution. I thought about getting airbags but after talking to Josh at Equal-i-zer, he said the hitch should be able to level out your load. After a few adjustments he was right. Take a look at the first picture attached, the TT is hitched up and the truck sits almost level. I think this is a great hitch for the money. No sway and almost perfectly level.

As far as brands go my Jayco is a great brand and great warranty. If I had a little more money I would definitely look into taigadog's Artic Fox or the Bigfoot models, both extremely well built units for all kinds of weather.

Good Luck!

I encourage all Titan owners who pull an RV trailer or 5th wheel to share with us your experiences. It would be real nice if you included any tips you've learned as well a description of the hitch and brake controller and the reason you chose that gear and the results/performance you've experienced.

TIA,

Red
