do i need the big tow option??

IM in the market for a titan..i found a nice 05 titan LE crew cab without the big tow...

Will my brake controller be prewired?
will this truck pull an 8500lb enclosed race car trailer?

or should i just find one with the big tow

thanx

Just find one with big tow. With out big tow, they can only pull around 6500. IMHO, Big tow is always a great bargain when you buy a Titan - even if you won't be towing. For the $300, your truck becomes more marketable when you try to resell it.

You could convert that one to a big-tow, but it will end up costing you some money. Mirrors, hitch, wiring harness, relays, transmission temp gage, differential gear set and the labor. Even if you do the conversion, you won't have the "Tow Mode" for your transmission.

Mine is a non B/T truck but I have tow mode. The only option I purchased with my XE truck was the drivers preferred pkg.

If you do try converting at as above, the little placard that says the legal towing capacity won't change. Legally, you still can't tow as much as if you had the big tow package. Like I said, the big tow is a bargain and is great for resale.

And your truck prbably won't be pre-wired for a brake controller. You can still put one in, but it is more work. With the big tow you get a harness and a plug.

I own 2 Titans, an 05 and an 08. The 05 has the Big Tow option, and is rated to tow 9500#, we use it regularly to tow and it does a great job.. The 08 has a standard tow package, and is rated at 7500#. The 08 gets better gas mileage that the 05, and will carry more. IMHO, the advice from the other members sounds good to me.

if you check the instrument cluster, the big tow should have an extra cooling gauge for the transmission, at least mine does. Someone chime in if I'm wrong, but I think the VIN will show that. That is if you can find a manual to compare it to............
