Exclamation Brake Controllers

For some time now the Protegy by Tekonsha has been the one most recommended by folks on the forums.

Here is a site that talks about brake controllers, electric drum brakes versus Hydraulic-disk brakes, and electric wiring of the brakes:

Brake Controller - TruControl by Hensley Mfg.

Take a few moments to read the information provided. Even if you don't decide to upgrade to their controller, it might be worth your while to re-wire the power and ground wires to your trailer's brakes.

I was going to ask about controllers Red (Had a Jorden last time because it was what they had locally) so I think you just may have answered my question.

Thanks for posting this!

So any of who use this controller? I have a Draw-tite activator that seems to have gone bad after a couple of years. It seems to be causing shorts and blowing fuses in my tow vehicle, any of you have this prob? What experiences with what controllers have you had?

Sorry I can't help you with your question. Perhaps someone else on this forum has experience with your problem.

Thanks for the post. Very informative. Sad to say, I am dumb as a post about brake controllers.

I think Feb 2010 issues of Trailer Life may still be on magazine seller's shelves. There is an interesting article on brake controllers and a comparison among the units shown. There are several other interesting articles in this issue. Recommended reading.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find a copy. Her Worship, (Mrs Coot), has one on the 05, as she tows almost daily, but I rarely do. The last thing I towed with the 08 was a trencher/trailer combo that had surge brakes.
