Parallel Parking Made Simple

Have you all seen the Lexus commercial with the LS460 and the Advanced Parking Guidance System? Well these University of Toledo students have designed a relatively simple alternative that doesn't require a Master's degree to operate.

The basic design is a simple hydraulic system that lifts the rear of the vehicle and slides it sideways into the spot. You really have to see it to realize how simple and effective it is http://utppd.blogspot.com/ ...this video shows that it works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rvUq...elated&search=

Wonder when Rob is going to stop partying and do something cool like this?

Where was that when I had to get my DL; I wouldn't have stressed so much about 'not hitting the cones'.

I could have sworn that I saw a concept of this years ago in popular science or popular mechanics. I wonder why auto makers aren't looking at a system like this rather then the crazy thing in the lexus.

cuz the Lexus system just looks cooler with the steering wheel moving all by itself, the nice little nav. screen showing you how close you are, etc.....a $60,000 Lexus just wouldn't look cool w/it's a$$ up in the air and little wheels underneath, don't think Toyo would allow it..........I guess........

The first thing I thought of when I saw the Lexus was "It really won't be long now before cars will actually drive themselves." Which is a good thing because between cell phones, DVD players Ipods and wireless networking cards people are doing everything but driving. Saw a guy last night going down the highway at 70 MPH while typing on his laptop so I just had to pull up beside him and lay on the horn to let him kow that he was #1 in my book.
