Variable Valve Timing

Since the 2007 Titan has this technology I thought it would be nice if we understood it.

Valves control the flow of air and fuel, into the cylinders and exhaust out of them. When and how long the valves open (timing) and how much the valves move (lift) both affect engine efficiency.

Optimum timing and lift settings are different for high and low engine speeds. Traditional designs, however, use fixed timing and lift settings, which are a compromise between the optimum for high and low speeds. VVT&L systems automatically alter timing and lift to the optimum settings for the engine speed.

Potential Efficiency Improvement of this is 5%.

By the way, General Motors patented the first variable valve timing and lift or smart valve system in September of 1975.

This link will take you to a hardcore PDF on this.

i remember when i had my civic ex that had VTEC! whenever i hit about 5200 rpms you can literally hear a change in the sound of the engine and feel a rush of power, kinda like a mini-turbo! it was cool, but d@mn little 4 cylinder had to be pushed at high rpms for power!!

My YZ80 had a high RPM powerband that was very impressive .... is that kind of what VVT does for a 4 stroke ??

Hmmm. This seems to be the subject of the week!
I went to the local dealer and checked out the new 07 Titans and they now have the VVTi.
I got me a little video of it right here! http://videos.streetfire.net/recentv...3c0143dba4.htm
Listen closely at the end of it and you can hear the retard dealer trying to tell me that the Crew Cab has 506 HP and the King Cab has 317HP! LOL

Well my Titan has one new rattle and it's been doing it for about 2 months and only under a slight engine load under the hood.
Sounds like this rattle from the TSB!

It was applicable to all Nissans with VVT. The vk56 is just one of them now. I think the qx56 has always had it?
