Greener pastures on the Vista....

Yep. I started with the 64 bit version and ended up reformating and going 32 bit to get my state of the art sound card to work, but other than that and a couple of minor quirks all seems pretty okay. If you aren't adept at searching the Net for the proper drivers and making things work when sometimes they shouldn't, I recommend avoiding the upgrade until Q4 or even next year.

I was the first kid on the block with XP Pro and it cost me beaucoup $$ by the time I replaced everything that XP wouldn't work with so I'm in no hurry. Have fun!

I wouldn't run the 64bit version yet anyway. No software is really written for 64bit processors, so you end up running it in 32bit emulation mode which costs more processor resources.

No you don't. Your processor is quite capable of running the 32bit version of windows.

Here's some other reasons: No virus scanner software, Included apps Outlook Express and Windows Media Player remain 32-bit , Even Windows Update service must be accessed using 32-bit Internet Explorer, Not even Microsoft writes drivers to support their own hardware: runs so many 32 bit emulators to make programs work, it slows the system down.

Vista probably won't be a worthy upgrade for 6-12 months while MS and the hardware industry get their butts in gear. Look for 18-24 months before you see fully compatible 64bit software to come out... (if it ever does).

No, no, no... I *NEED* 64 bit. And there are several A/V solutions, Avast! has a free one that runs on 64bit.

It's totally different. I am a hardcore gamer and tweaker, I couldn't use an Apple even if I wanted to.

I'm on the retail version on my main box at home (32 bit) and at work (64 bit) but I still have one of the beta versions on my little Shuttle. I've been running the beta for over a year now. If you are going to run the 32 bit version or pay the big bucks for the retail rather than OEM, I'd say go ahead and do it. I had some audio issues but it is working at about 72% now and all my games are working fine.
