SAWSvs.FOXvsRADFLOvs.ICONs

So i'm shopping for some coilovers. SAWS,Icon,Fox, and radflos..etc etc.. and I need some expert advise please. Did several searches but did not turn anything thing up specific to an overall understanding on price and benefits. Sorry in advance if I missed it.

What is the true difference in a coil over from one reputable source to another? Remote or no remote res.?

I definitely need aftermarket UCAs as my coilbuckets now have nicks in them with stock coils and uca. Thats the big reason in trying to figure this out. If i'm going to get new UCAs then I might as well upgrade the coilovers and benefit from that as well.

Thanks
Mac

Get a hold of PRG. He does custom valving on shocks for the Titan and can answer all your questions.

you could make all the different brands the same color, slap them on your truck and you wouldn't know which one was which. that's basically it. but what really seperates the companies apart is the internal valving, shimming, tuning, etc. not all companies use the same seals nor do they tune the shock the same way and the way they match a certain spring weight to the valving is entirely unique. what makes a particular brand more popular than another really isn't because it is in every way shape and form superior... today its primarily marketing and what that company is willing to either spend in advertisement or spend on the sponsorship of big name offroad superstars.

as far as remote reservoir, its advantageous to have one as the further away it is from the body of the coilover the better cooling properties its going to have on the shock oil which is key from causing the shock fluid from cavitating and blowing the shock rendering it useless. not that its common but the goal is to keep the fluid as cool as possible so having it run to a remote reservoir is an advantage. also many coilovers have internal reservoirs which do the same thing just not to the degree or difference a remote reservoir has on decreasing the temp of the shock fluid.

i will say there really isn't much that seperates the reputable coilover sources but it is best and wise to stick WITH a reputable source such as a Bilstein, Fox, SAW, King and Radflo.

yes, new UCAs are a must to eliminate that problem and upgrading the coilovers at the same time is like killing 2 birds with one stone. i highly recommend the PRG UCAs as they offer camber adjustability as where my old Total Chaos UCAs did not offer camber adjustability.

Hooligan,

Thank you for taking the time to explain this. I would think this would qualify as a "sticky" for other new titan owners searching through the many different "Reputable" companies for a definitive answer in such high dollar purchases.
