I have one of the Roadys in the garage as well! My Channels are : | They approved the merger because Sirius would've gone under soon, neither company is financially sound right now and if one went under than the other would be left to act like a real monopoly. Neither company is making profits and both have a TON of debt, that's why their stock prices and values have decreased a TON over the last couple years. Instead of raising prices to cancel out losses and pay debt, combined resources and stable prices would help do this a little mo' efficiently.
IF XM and Sirius were both soaring high right now and incredibly profitable and on top of the world, there is no way a merger would've been approved and it would've been a REAL monopoly with a lot of power. HD radio, iPODs, music on cell phones, the 1 million MP3 products out there........all this has nullified any chance the companies had at growing quickly.
I actually agree with the Justice Dept on this one. A merger now is better than a monopoly in a few years. Especially because when the merger was approved (like a just stated in another post), they were given stipulations to follow, one being they can't act like a monopoly and start gouging customers. But again, this doesn't behoove 'em with customers already a little upset at prices.
I really think this combined company will be watched closely especially because it is in an infant industry and it will be perceived as a monopoly by the public.
We should be alright. Take a deep breath Sinner, and count to 100.
