cracking noise at speed. sounds like dash area

Hey everyone...new to the site. Like what I see. Much useful info. Thanks.
Have '05 Titan KC 4X4. On recent trip at highway speed loud (and I mean 'loud') cracking sound from dash area somewhere. Usually kicks in at about 65mph, but not always. Don't think it's wind related and road conditions don't seem to matter. About ready to tear dash out (and 'no' don't think I had a penny role into the vents). Any thoughts?

I hate to say it but with all the plastic these trucks do tend to pop and snap especially when the weather changes. After 117,000 miles I've learned to ignore it because it usually goes away..................except for those stupid Tic Tacs the Queen had under the gloves in her door. That rattle almost drove me insane. She still wonders what could have happened to those things even 3 years later. LOL Good luck!

Welcome to the site!

Granted my hearing isn't what it used to be; but, I have a stock truck and just over 30k miles. I have not experienced any major creaking or loud sounds in my Titan. Then too, the only off-roading I've done has involved running onto a dirt shoulder by mistake

Sorry, I can't offer any help other than to say mine is quiet so far.

Sorry, I can't help either. The only noise I have experienced was a squeak in the front seat of the 05. Some Locktite, a 14mm box end wrench and an application of arm strong torque has kept the thing quiet for the last 3 yrs.....

Hmm that's a new sound to me. Haven't heard of one that starts making racket around 65mph. My 04 with 104k has so many creaks, cracks, rattles, and groans that it's pathetic. I have found a remedy though, just turn the radio up. That seems to fix it every time. Good luck with the sound. And welcome to the forums.

Just a second thought. Open the hood and do a little grab and shake on the plastic components that form the cowl and ductwork at the base of the windshield and heater components.

Also check the wheel well to be sure the inner wheel well isn't loose and able to flap around at speed.

Good luck and I hope you share what you find out to be the cause.

I think people that live in extreme climates deal with this more then those in steady temps. It goes from below 0F to 106F so there's a lot of swelling, shrinking and shape changing going on and it's not just with the Titan either.

Is the sound coming from under the dash, meaning it is something inside the vehicle, or something under the dash coming from underneath the truck. I get a loud pop every now and then from the front drive train. I had the front CV's go out once and before they went I would get a loud pop when it would shift from 4th to 5th merging onto a highway.

thanks everyone for the input. Will check the plastic components under the hood near windshield. Sure sounds like the dash and is loud enough to interfere with CD's playing fairly loudly. Dealer has no idea, but is willing to tear the dash apart at $79 per hour....
This truck is operated at extreme temperature ranges, but this began in temperate conditions. When I find what it is, will post the result...just in case your Titan decides to mimick.
