Angry Battery and CAI question...

I have two questions. I have never had any of these problems with any other vehicle. The first is about the battery. I took the truck into dealership to get the oil changed and another issue checked out and they told me they noticed corrosion on the positive battery terminal. Of course, they did not tell me why it was there. The battery is the original battery and it about 1 1/2 years old and 20k miles. Why is it corroded?

The next question. I recently installed a AEM Brute force CAI and after about 3 wks of use, it caused my engine light to come on. When I called Nissan about it, they told me to re-install the OEM CAI because the new one was letting in too much air messing with the air/fuel ratio. I like the benefits of a CAI. I want to put one on the truck but I am worried of going through the same stuff before. What should I look for or do I have to stay with an OEM CAI?

Well first off batteries contain electrolyte or acid which causes the corrosion process. You could have cleaned these yourself with baking soda and water paste which would have neutralized the acid and then just used a terminal brush that you can get at walmart to clean up the terminals. Then before you put the terminals on apply some dielectric grease to keep the corrosion to a minimal.

As for the Cai and Check engine light did you go to Auto Zone and have them pull the code for free? There's a lot of things that can cause a check engine light.

The CAI won't cause a check engine light by itself since I and others have been running one for 10's of thousands of miles. Installing the Maf in backward will cause a check engine light but since it took a couple of weeks I'd check all the clamps................and your gas cap. Not having the gas cap installed properly will cause a Cel. (Check Engine Light.)

Battery corrosion used to be much more common than these days. With the advent of sealed maintenance batteries, there was much less acidic vapor being vented and corroding the terminals. The Titan battery, at least on mine, is the old style with vent caps and they let out acidic vapors as the battery is being charged.

As Squid said, cleaning and coating will prevent or at least reduce the problem.

As far as the CAI is concerned, I'm afraid I can't offer any help.

And the stock Titan battery is only good for about 3 years from most reports.

Squid is right. That's about what I got out of my 05's battery. Of course, the heat here kills batteries early

I lost mine 2 months shy of 3 years and it was in the dead of summer with highs over 100 F.

After about 1.5 years my Big Tow battery started to get corrosion on the terminals even after cleaning and using Oxi-Ban on them. At 3.5 years the corrosion issues increased and I decided to install a Optima Red Top.....so far no problems.
I kept the original battery and it's now in service on my solar powered electric gate opener.....we'll see how long it lasts!
I'm afraid I can't help on the intake question but good luck!

if you are using an oiled type filter the oil gets in the ait sensor. if thats the case you may try some electrical contact spray to clean it. my cai uses a dry filter you may want to spend the $20 to get a dry filter and try that or go to autozone and let them read your codes.
