STRANGE NOISE(engine whine)

Its been going on for a while and I have already changed the water pump and belt. I do not hear it first thing in the morning but its there by the time I get to work and every afternoon when I crank up. I change the water pump and it came back but I did not hear it after I changed my oil today. The noise is constant at any speed or rpm if it comes back I will try and make my own video of it. I found this one of a BMW and it sounds just the same but never changes with rpms. I am done with the warranty and going to nissan is my last option due to crazy pricing.

I can't offer specific causes. I do suggest you get a mechanic's stethoscope so you can touch the probe on individual components and find where it is loudest. After doing that you should have a better idea of the problem. Whines often come from bearings, but you say it doesn't change with RPM. So what constant speed rotating element do you have under the hood? Have you tried to see if changing the heater fan affects the whine?

Good luck.

I just came back from a test drive to Jack n the box and still no noise. I changed the water pump yesterday and the noise was still there. Well this morning I changed the oil and the noise is gone. The only differences this oil change was I used 5w30 instead of 10w40 and I did not use that restore engine lubricant. I may have accidently found the problem but we will see.

Okay, but if it comes back a couple of things that came to mind was a vacuum leak or even the possibility that you didn't get the air filter cover all the way snapped on.

The manual say 5w30 preferred for all temps and 10w30 or 40 maybe used if above 0*F. I did on the same page 9-5 "nissan does not recommend the use of oil additives." When I first started changing my own oil I just looked for the oil type 5 or 10 not wether or not I could use an additive. Inexpensive lesson learned do not use a additive.

Thanks for your inputs to my stupidity next time I should stay at a holiday inn express.

As of today the noise has not returned. My best guess are a clogged oil filter due to the Restore Oil additive.
