Transfer Case

I just puked my ????ing piece of ???? transfer case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that the rant is out of my system, when I tried to engage 4x4 tonight(yes plenty slick with a couple inches of snow) all I managed to do was hear a lovely grinding sound coming from my truck. I never heard a popping noise or any other tell tail signs that it actually broke. So just wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar problem. Sorry I am really ????ed right now considering I got rid of a Tahoe due to t-case issues. (it was a first year Tahoe so that was most of the issue and a bad job from amco caused a third t-case so it wasn't just bad engineering.)!s sedoff:

I've never owned a 4x4, so I have no experience with transfer cases. Still, there is some form of clutch or solenoid that causes/permits engagement. Electronic signals to engage. Did it throw a code?

Do you know it is broke, or just won't engage?

Well, from your description I would think that it is mechanical, probly gears stripping or something. You could remove the magnetic drain plug and see if any big chunks are attached. But if you are still under warranty I would take it in, that way you don't have to refill with ATF.

stealerships aren't so bad so long as everything is still under warranty.

Thanks guys for all the replies, sorry if I sounded a little spastic, I just kinda freaked out because this is how it started with my tahoe and it never was the same again. I bought the Titan because of its superior feel, although I am not giving up my claims that it is still the best truck on the market, just makes me mad. So far I am not sure if it will be solenoid or a gear, but the grinding sounds makes me think that something inside the case is probably damaged now. It is under warranty so I will have in tin to the dealer in about 5.5 hours, and the service dept there is great. They actually put on my DRE's for free. Makes me nervous too because I will have essentially the PRG 4" performance lift (upper arms from hooli, have the shocks, and the rest coming from greg) and now am kinda leery about this stuff voiding warranty. Anyway guess I should shut up now, I'll post tomorrow when I find out what cratered.
