Nissan Titan 4WD Suspension Solutions

Now that I've found my next work vehicle it's time to plan the coming setup for my Titan.

I'm going to upgrade the calipers so I'll be buying new 18" wheels and tires to facilitate the caliper upgrade. Since I'm still going to be using the truck to pull a trailer every now and then I'm interested in some suggestions from those of you that live and breathe PRG.

I don't mind admitting that I'm lost when it comes to this stuff and after 3 years of reading 500,000 post on the subject I'm no closer to understanding it then I was at post #1.

So would the 4" PRG package be the way to go for my use and if so would the Saws or DRE be better?
Or
Should I consider a combination of the newer components from this post by Greg back at the beginning of the month along with Deaver 1" mini-pack and Bilstein rear shocks?

New Stuff From PRG

Here's a sampling of a few of the products we have available now, but that aren't on our website. Please call for more info on these items.
First is our new upper a-arm. These are chromoly and use FK and Auroa heims and uniballs. The inner spacers are stainless. We will preassembly and adjust them so you can just bolt them in when they arrive. No grinding or fit issues at all. They are designed to be able to compensate for any permanent frame deflection from hard driving with the inner heim adjustment also. They are powedercoated gloss black and will sell for $599 shipped.

Next we have the new Bilstein Titan replacement shocks. We will be selling the shocks for $89ea free shipping. But you can find better pricing from internet based companies. What we do offer is to assembly them for you for a fee and charge a core fee on your old struts (for the springs). This will allow you to replace your factory strut assembly in about 15 minutes vs breaking down the strut with a spring compressor and reassembling them. Price for the assembled Bilsteins is $119 (free shipping) and a $25 core charge to be returned to you upon us receiving your old shocks. we have these assembled and ready to ship.

Finally we have a new Sway-a-way coilover for the bracket-lifted trucks (CST, Fabtech, Procomp, Rancho). These will replace the coilovers on your stage 2 kit or the stock strut and the big coilspacer on lifted trucks. These run our own valving and are offered in a 2 or 4wd spring configuration. We will also offer a red or black Eibach spring. Pricing on these is $999 pr, free shipping.

I will have pics of these products on trucks in the next day or so.
Any and all help would really be appreciated because the PRG website isn't up to date and there seems to be a lot of new products/choices.

So is the Titan you intend to turn over to the Queen? If so, is the lift going to suit her entry/exit requirements? Just curious as I've met a lady or two who hate climbing up into a truck.

The Queen is 6'2" with 4' of that being legs so truck height isn't going to be a problem for her...............besides, I'm wondering with a Black Titan and a Black Z to pick from which one will be always left sitting in the drive when she's gone?

What type of load and any mountain grades?

If at 7500 pounds or more, I'd say just level it with DR coilovers in the front ... no aftermarket upper A-arms are need so you save $600. They are only needed with the SAW or if the DRs are used with the PRG custom spacer, (not a level kit). For the rear the Bilsteins are firm and best for towing.

The Deaver 1" mini-pak is supposed to be fine for towing, but adds 1.5" of rake so takes away the level the DRs would give you.

With just the DRs, Bilsteins, you could run the BFG LT305/65/18 E-rated tires with 3525 lbs. capacity each at 65 psi! 33.7" diameter and 12.0" wide on a 8.5" rim.

Without the lower gears of OR or BT, a 34" diameter tire is the max you would probably want to go anyway. Maybe even the 33" 285/65/18 E. More load too, 3640 lbs. !!

No mountains or grades but I will be doing a lot of driving over rough unimproved land....and I mean teeth loosening, jaw aching rough. So rough that right now 5MPH is as fast as you want to drive in a stock Titan without smacking your head into the roof or side window or cringing because you feel like you just lost your front end. That rough so I'm looking more for go than show.

The towing will be at low speeds and not for very long, just moving the tractor or hauling building material.

Here's a couple of pics. Same tires. 33" BFG AT KO LT285/70/17
1st with the just the Donahoe Racing, (DR) coilovers in the front, and the Bilsteins in the back.

2nd with the remainder of the PRG 4" performance package ... Total Chaos, (TC), upper A-arms, the PRG custom spacer for the DRs/TCs, the Deavers. Also added TC shackles to reduce the rake from the Deavers.

I like the looks of the 33" tires better with just the DRs (2" level vs. the 3" to 3.5" or the performance package). The 4" PP is better off road though, and with larger tires will look more like the first pic.

In that case I'd say get the PRG 4" Performance Package, with Greg's uppers, and the SAWs, and the Deaver 1" mini pak, and the DR rears, or Radflo rears for around ~2x more. Also he is going to have a 2 1/4" SAW rear shocks pretty soon ... haven't got a price yet.

Total Chaos shackles?

2" is more than enough for me.... getting some things in the bed now is a pain as it is.... I can't imagine a taller truck!

lol, i now need a step stool just to check the coolant level in the reservoir...

i'd go, with sQuid in mind:

- PRG spec'd SAWs
- PRG Upper Control Arms
- 1.5" Deaver spring pack
- 1" custom PRG tapered billet blocks
- PRG offroad traction bars
- Total Chaos shackles
- donohoe rear shocks
- and the biggest set of BFG ATs you can get. the tread design on the BFG ATs is the most forgiving and best hit absorbing tire and the bigger the better to dampen the teeth chattering roads.

although the real "i'm not old" sQuid should go:

- CST 7" 4wd kit
- PRG Upper Control Arms
- 2.5 SAWs (new lifted bracket length)
- 2.5" Deaver springpack
- 2" PRG custom billet aluminum tapered block
- Total Chaos shackles
- 2.5 rear SAWs
- PRG offroad traction bars
- 325/65/18 BFG AT KOs
- 18x9 American Racing Teflon Thugs 6x5.5 (BWT: American Racing Wheels - American Racing Rims - Thug (Teflon))

teflon wheels are the best! just spray em with water and they're clean!

Total Chaos shackles actually lower the truck by 3/4".

There main purpose is for strength though. The stock ones are thin rolled metal that welds break and unroll. Just read a post on another forum about a non-off roader having this happen.

The really bad thing about this is the leaf spring slams up and damages the pickup's bed, so bodywork and bed liner repairs are required.
