Questions for the ATV experts......

So when I buy my Titan, I wanna buy a quad also, put it in the bed and off I go whenever, wherever I want.

I used to ride an 89 Banshee when I was a kid, but my Dad was the one that did everything. All I knew how to do was start it up, then tear it up. Now that I'm older and been outta the game for awhile I don't know anything. I need help.

I live in Southern Cal so I'm looking for a 2wd speed demon dune racer. I'm brand loyal so I'm thinking about the Yamaha YFZ450. I'm figuring that would be better suited for the kind of riding I want to do compared to the Raptor...no? Any other models out there you might find to be a better quad?

My big question is do I buy a brand new 08 for $7500.....or do I buy em gently used? I've seen some 04's for $4000. Do I just take it to a shop and have them tune it up and I'm good to go?

Any suggestions on websites, message boards, anyplace where I can go and catch up on the info would be great. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks!

This advice is the same I'd give to someone starting out again on a motorcycle.

Start with a used unit with lesser power than the "best-of-the-best" current models. Repair products will be cheaper, and you will get a chance to develop your skills.

After the first season, if you decide to continue and you feel your skills are up to the task, use the older ATV as a trade-in on a new one.

Thanks for the reply Red. I think I will go the used route...just to save on funds so I'll have more mod dough for the Titan when I get her. It's difficult to try and find that one that hasn't been abused though. Don't see myself going with a smaller one though.....can't imagine if I was able to ride a Banshee at 13, I wouldn't be able to ride a 450 at 32.

A significant proportion of MC injuries and fatalities have involve "Re-entrants"; those folks who rode motorcycles many years ago and thought they could just jump back on right where they left off.
Not so.

Ride safe.

this is true ^^ especially 'round here......if you're patient though, you will find one for sale with low hours, i see them from time to time by guys who bought 'em and just haven't had time to ride, etc.......

Yeah every once in awhile I'll see one on Craigslist where they state it's been ridden twice. I'm sure it's a crap shoot buying a used vehicle thats made to be abused, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying new off the showroom floor.
