Tundra Thoughts. (Mega Pictures!)

Saturday morning after I got done with my nightly drive I jumped on the Harley and made a 500 mile round trip ride to Garden City Kansas to check out the Tundra up close and personal at one of Toyotas "Tundra Prove it" exhibitions.

My first impression as I walked up to the trucks is that it looks a lot better in person than the pictures make it out to be. The interior is nice and the one I pawed over was a CC since that seems to be the most popular model any more.

Since I don't own a CC Titan I don't know if this is so but the rear seats recline and also fold down which I thought was nice touch and entry into the back was easy even for my 6'2' 200 LBS 45 year old body and I had lots of leg room even with the front seat all the way back. You do loose some rear leg room when you recline the back seat but as in life there's always a trade off.

The 12 speaker sound system and Nav are from the Lexus and both kick butt. The down side to the nav is that you have to be stopped to change settings except for the Hospital which can be used while moving. I told the guy I was talking too that it was sad they hadn't wired it up to the passenger side airbag sensor so it could be operated by the passenger, (Probably a cool mod that a savvy owner could do to make that happen). The other thing I thought was strange is that since the stereo and nav are integrated you don't have separate displays for each so they added one more task to do while driving and if you loose the display you loose both systems. (Probably not a biggy but something I noticed)

I found the dash color scheme a little strange but not something I couldn't gt used to. The controls for the air and heat are big like the Titans when i drove the truck I didn't find anything particularly disturbing about the instruments. The center console is huge and deep! Really Deep! File folder deep, Cooler Deep so if you work from your truck or travel a lot storage isn't a problem. Speaking of storage I counted 12 cup holders so you won't be thirsty either.

Oh yeah, back to the nav. Like the Titan you can't see anything out the rear view mirror so the CC I drove had a back up camera and the guy let me try to hit a ball. The display from the nav unit/camera was awesome and I hit the ball the first time so I'm sold on that. I am a little curious how it works at night so I guess a night time test drive is in order but if you tow a lot and by yourself I'd think about it.

I didn't get to drive it on the highway so that's going to be later after the the 08 Titan arrives but tooling around the test track was a blast and by the smiles on everyones face when they got out of the truck I'd say they felt the same way.

Is the Tundra better than the Titan? I can tell you that the 07 Tundra is better than my 04 Titan but the 08 Titan I'll just have to wait until they get some in. I will tell you that I'm very impressed with the Tundra and If the Tundra was the same price as the Titan I would probably have to get one and not look back. But $5000 better? I don't think so but that's just me and I like my toys so this fall it's going to be a pricing thing. price of the trucks, price of fuel, etc. besides I'm keeping my Titan so I can have it all!

Very cool Squid. I might have to hop the scoot and head down to MD myself and check it out.

I took almost 100 pictures while I was there. The ride was great and for not riding any distance in years 500 miles was a walk in the park except for the forehead burn I suffered and the being awake for almost 30 hours. HAHAHA.
