Test Drove 07 Tundra DoubleCab Limited 5.7L V8

here's a write-up from fellow SoCal Titan club member Braceyoself77 on the 07 Toyota Tundra he test drove...

I was like,"Great...nice to know." I just want to test drive the new Tundra. Well first off I got to sit the back and front...space in the back was incredibly confortable for a Doublecab/KingCab truck....and this isn't even the CrewMax yet. I didn't like the dash and how it had 7 seperate holes...exaggerating....it made my eyes pretty tired. But the truck in person...compared to pictures...felt very nice. It was all plastic but at least they put different colors on them...unlike my Titan which is like two toned. Hood opened up like a Dodge ram...felt cheap...but otherwise...the engine bay was impressive and the do-it-youself guy...would of been happy to see all the room to move around in. Now...for the test drive....one word...SMOOTH! The 6 speed tranny was incredibly smooth. The ride was quite and car like. Handling...very nice for being the size that the truck is. The most impressing part of the drive was the brakes. 14in rotors with 4 piston calipers...those things are suckers and grab when you want them to. The engine was smooth and didn't have that brute force like my truck does that gets to 60. I am giving credit that the Variable Timing on the Tundra makes the big difference...alot of power on the top end. All I know is that this truck is gonna b the king of the hill for now and probably the king of some peoples bank accounts. $40,250 was the price of the truck I test drove which was loaded...back up cam...navi..but didn't have a DVD player....not even 4x4. Alot of people had their eyes on the truck...I got out of it..took 3 pictures and rolled out...next person took it for a spin. I told the guy..maybe 2 years down the road...he said,"Why?" Then I told him my answer in form of a question...,"Don't you think the Tundra now will be better two years down the road anyways?" Sales guy>>> . Thanks for reading..just wanted to share with you...I post pics later.

Which to means anyone of (ahem) wide girth will probably feel very snug on long trips.
The fit and finish is excellent and the engine compartment is nice and clean. They did a good job there.
But...overall...When I walked back to '06 CC 4x4 Titan, I didn't find myself thinking about trading. It's simply not a revolution in truck design.
The Titan is aging well. 4 years down the road, there will be some interesting choices out there.

Tell them thanks for taking the time, but $40,000? Not this guy. The biggest selling point of the Titan was the bang for the bucks so I don't forsee a a sea of Tundras out on the highway.

People will buy them like people buy the Ridgeline.......whatever that is?

Oh and I also think the interior is way to busy.

couldn't agree more, aside from possibly getting an FJ for the wife, i can't see getting a Toyota Tundra anytime in the near or far future! i can however foresee getting a second generation Titan.

no sh!t, i just saw a guy test driving one on the 15 due north on my way to Fallbrook in the big brown beast and i wasn't to thrilled with it, although i will admit it does look better in person but just not all that appealing. the back end if you ever get a chance to see on soon, really looks like sh!t and the bumper is waaaay to low, just doesn't look right. we'll definitely see them here in SoCal on the road moreso than the Ridgeline but not in the numbers you see Titans dominating the roadways!
