Ford to introduce F-150 with diesel engine by 2009

So the race is officialy on for the first North American Diesel when it comes to the 1/2 ton market.

DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. will launch its F-150 pickup with a diesel engine in 2008 or 2009, a former top executive confirmed.

If it arrives on time, the F-150 probably will be the first light-duty pickup with a diesel in North America.

Dave Szczupak, who retired last week as Ford's vice president of manufacturing for the Americas, said the F-150 will get a version of the 3.6-liter V-8 diesel used in the Land Rover Range Rover SUV sold in Europe.

Ford will be the first with the product unless Toyota or Nissan pulls off a surprise.

Gary Convis, Toyota's executive vice president of engineering and manufacturing for North America, said last month that Toyota had not yet sourced a diesel engine for the Toyota Tundra and might even buy one from a supplier. Nissan is negotiating with International Truck & Engine Corp. for a V-8 diesel for the Nissan Titan, but neither company has announced a deal.

That might not be a good thing. International also supplies Ford with its problematic 6.0 Powerstroke.

I myself have never owned a diesel, however, my dad has had several Ferd diesels going back to pre-powerstroke mid 80's .... and a couple of very nice powerstrokes ....... the biggest thing that bothered me about his diesel trucks was the fueling situation .... diesel has a tendency to "foam" while fueling, spilling onto the ground around the stations diesel pump .... and then when you get out to fuel your vehicle, you're standing in diesel residue ..... and then you get back into your truck and you get that residue on your floormat ..... and as careful as you are, and as aware of this issue as you can be, it still happens ..... my landlord lady at my barn has a nice top of the line 99 Dodge Duellie Cummings that she uses to pull her Sundowner horse/travel trailer .... this truck only has about 30k miles on it because she's an OLD lady and don't get out like she once did ..... her truck smells like diesel fuel when you open the door.....

The solution is to have a 500 gallon tank at your house that way when it spills out you can water it back into the ground where it came from originally.

international also was the source of the 7.3L powerstrokes....one of the top 10 best ever diesel motors according to Diesel Power.
