Xterra won't start

Well wifey's Xterra was took a major dump. She was heading to work yesterday morning and it started raining so she switched on her lights, All the lights in the instrument bezel came on and flashed then the engine died at 60mph. She managed pulled over on the shoulder and turned the key off and collect herself waited and cranked up, it ran fine all the way to work. Well this morning it wouldn't even crank. I haven't looked at it closely, but anybody have any ideas what may have caused this? I'll look more into it after we get back from vacation.

Sounds like maybe a loose battery cable or a bad ground on the chassis?

I agree, or the battery.

Just so you feel better I think we've all went through a stage when it seemed like our cars were junk, our house was falling apart or every person we met of the opposite sex were losers. I think a vacation sounds like a great deal but if you have to drive try a rental car.

...speaking of Xterra's (and kinda off topic), is it new TTAM? wifey's '05 just passed 30,000K and there's an annoying squeak from rear spring pack, how's yours?

If it was the MAF, the truck would have gone into limp mode, not shut off.

Now that you mention it, I remember chicks saying something about disconnecting a MAF and running the truck till it shuts off. I guess it's possible that a dead MAF could cause the truck to stop working.... I was thinking of a wet MAF, which causes limp mode.

I was thinking that it died, then it started and was fine, and now it won't start which sounds electrical to this Fine outstanding, Well Bred, Southern Gentleman.

Nah it's an 01. Ours doesn't squeak from the rear, it squeaks in the front. I thing it may be a torsion bar or other suspension component. Only does it when in a bind.

I did notice alot of crud build-up on the terminals. Didn't really have enough time to clean it thoroughly. I was also doing some searching on an Xterra site and found that some Xterras within a set VIN range have had issues with the fuel pump terminal corroding and breaking causing the vehicle to die unexpectedly. Had to pack for the trip Friday night. Gonna look at it maybe this weekend or the next. It's cranking and running fine now. I does have a bad clatter in the engine bay. Can't tell if it's the fan shroud or something internal.

I'm thinking it's a loose electrical connection somewhere. Gonna crawl under and check the ground at the starter. Maybe it's there. Heck it may even be in those "Cruddy" battery terminals?
