| I finally got my permit for new electrical service. Yesterday I tried to buy the direct burial wire I need, but the wholesale place has to order it. 3/0 copper wire is $4.50/ft and 250 RCM aluminum is $1.30ft, so I ordered 200' of the aluminum. I also just painted my 1800 sq.ft. of my shops concrete floor. I used H&C silicone acrylic paint. I used 18 gallons for 4 coats. The 4th coat I put H&C shark grip in the paint. This gives the floor a textured feel so that is more or less non-slip. Before painting I used 3 gallons of muriatic acid on the floor to roughen up the concrete a little so the paint would stick better. I think it came out pretty good. Now I won't have stains from oil etc. Once I get the electrical and the water in, I can start on the interior. The first thing is to get the air plumbed. Then I will build a 14'x14' climate controlled room. This will allow me to store leather tack and tools etc. that don't like a moist environment, can't have my prize burdizzo's getting rusty. I like lots of light, interior and exterior, so I plan on having at least 5000 watts of lights. I don't like fluorescent lights so I will go with something else. Hopefully in a year or so I will be done.

| I guess I should start a thread about my shop as I did on NTF before it bit the dust. I don't want to mess up Squids thread with my stuff.

| I'm now 1/2 way through phase one of the Shop project. I've got the 16'X23' foot cement side that will be used to store the tractor, mowers, tillers, etc, and future Auto Resto area (After the Queens house is done) cleaned out and all the nasty shelves and stuff tore down. (I now understand why people tear down rather than restore. It was nasty beyound belief.) Today the Queen went to Lowes to pick up the insulated garage door with the nifty TorqueMaster™ Counterbalance system and lifetime warranty. While she was there Lowes called and my Ondura roofing is in so she gets to go get that tomorrow (The Queen doesn't get dirty) and when I get up there should be 2,200 feet of 2X4's thrown out on the ground for the pulins (Nailing strips) delivered by those friendly hardware folks at ACE of Wellington for free (Delivery not the 2X4's). I decided due to the snow and the heavy winds to space the purlins 12" on center. As you look at the interior pics you'll notice the large spacing between the studs and boy did I really luck out here. The spacing is perfect so that when I tear the corrugated tin off the exterior I can add 2 additional studs to make the spacing 16" on center with out messing with the existing studs. (This makes insulating a breeze.) Next up garage door framing and installation. Then garage floor power wash and then an application of that cool garage floor sealer with the pretty flakes (Wonder if it comes in galaxy Black?) Purlin install and siding removal/ stud and new siding installation and then the new roof. Fun, Fun, Fun. Oh yeah the propane guy came buy and he's going to find me a used 250 Gallon tank rather than a $800 new tank. If he can't find one before January he's going to just lease me one for $5 a month until he does. (Pays to be nice to people.) Note:The 1st pic is a reminder of what I started with. | Yeah, I hate renovating. I just finished running a TV antenna circuit from the main splitter in the attic to the other end of the house, down through the wall and into a terminal box. I hate old fiberglass insulation, dust , dirt, and who knows what all after 50 years old attic. Sky, be careful. The DEA is going to pounce on your shop. They audit power records and see you adding 5kw and are going to assume those are "grow" lights. I can see the headlines now! "Local rancher claims He's innocent! But who in their right mind needs 5kw of lights in a small woodworking shop, DA asks?" Red

| It's time to start the fun. The 2,200 ft of 2x4's was delivered Thursday and I spent the last two days hauling 123 sheets or 2,214 LBS of Ondura roofing material plus nails and vent caps from Lowes to the barn with the Mighty Titan. Tomorrow and Monday I'll be installing the garage door and then I get to play on the roof installing the nailing strips weather permitting. |
