As much as I am a proponent of the Nissan Leaf, unless you live in an area that has public charging stations, you will be restricted to a round-trip range of less than a 100 miles. For me that would be doable for 90% of my driving. Max distance I travel normally is around 20miles a day.
Then the question becomes how do I extend that range for those occasions I want to travel further. If I go to Seattle, I would need to take the ferry ($12 each way) then find one of the chargers there. Would it be open if I needed it? Not guaranteed.
So in the long run from a practical standpoint, I'd have to vote for the Chevy Volt, which has a gas engine to charge the battery.
Maybe in another 6 or 8 years when my Titan is very long in the tooth, I'll look at what is available in electrics then.

With gas prices around $4 a gallon, its always interesting to see who is gonna flinch & sell their truck at the first sign of high gas prices.. as opposed to the hardcore truck owners that wouldn't sell their truck to save their life.

I look at it this way. It makes no economic sense to attempt to sell my Titan because of gas prices.
The market for low mpg trucks will not be favorable. My Titan is paid for and I don't want another payment for a new car.
I can drive thousands and thousands of miles and still not equal the cost of a new vehicle. If I drive 8K miles and average 15mpg $4.00/gal gas would cost me $2133 a year. Car payments would be at least $3600 for a year. You would still need to add the cost of gas to drive it. A car getting 30 MPG would only cut the cost of the new car by $1066 for a year.
Looking at it that way, it doesn't make sense to sell the truck to buy another car just for better MPG and gas costs.
I'll keep my Titan for quite some time yet.

I hear ya and couldn't agree more.

I know folks that every time gas prices change, they have to run out & buy a new car. Mortgaged up to the hilt, they wonder why they can't save money with their newest gas smart acquisition...lol
