2010 Ducati 1198S (SuperBike)

Red noticed in the thread about the Sig Sauers that I had purchased that I mentioned visiting the Ducati Dealership in Oklahoma City while I was down there at the Gun show and this is why.

I got up at 3 PM Thursday, worked all night, ran home and fed the dogs Friday morning and was heading South toward Oklahoma City by 6 am and back home and in bed by 1:30 Friday afternoon.

I was suppose to be getting a 09 1198S but the Salesperson I had been dealing with on the phone for a month didn't check with the distributor before making the deal with me so I got my 010 at the agreed upon price for a 09.

Put 100 miles on her Saturday and I think she's a keeper! When I change the oil at 600 miles (This weekend) I'll take some more pictures of the heart and soul of the bike.

I love my RoadKing Classic but this is an Anorexic Harley on Steroids, LOL.

That is a great bike! My uncle rode a Ducati for years. He swore by it. Hope you have as good a luck as he did.

Sweet! Do you plan to do your own valve adjustments on the Desmodromic valves?

I've known them to be real fussy and need to be done real often.

Nice bike. How come on 95% of the crotch rocket bikes that I see only 1 headlight is working?

For a number of years, Asymmetric styling has been the rage. Personally, I prefer both lights to light up and use a high/low bulb. I would see if I could do that, reflectors permitting.

Another reason is to reduce the amperage being drawn so they can run a smaller battery to reduce weight.

Red hit it on the head. These bikes are all about weight, or the lack there of and I quote.
Quote:
The pistons have a double-ribbed undercrown to achieve high strength and reduced friction by using minimal piston wall surface area. They use a special crankcase manufacturing technology which reduces weight by an incredible 3kg (6.5lbs).
The vacuum die-cast process ensures consistent and precise wall thickness and increased strength from absolute material purity. The cam covers, Clutch and Generator covers are a magnesium-alloy for weight savings.

The headlamp units used on the 1198 and 1198 S save around 0.5kg (1.2lb)
compared to those used on the 1098. Apart from contributing to the motorcycle’s overall weight saving, this also reduces weight from a crucial
high, frontal area which serves to enhance the overall vehicle handling and
the ‘feel’of the front-end.
As for the Valves it's really not that difficult, just takes a lot of time to dismantle the bike and then put it back together. Since I live in Kansas I have 4 to 5 months of winter to get it done LOL and now it's only done every 7500 miles. Red you'll enjoy this link on the process. Ducati Suite- Valve Adjustment

I also ordered one of these since the maintenance warnings can't be erased unless you go to the dealership which there isn't one around here. Vehicle Diagnostic Scan-Tool Software

Being out of touch with street bikes for many years, I asked my 23 year old son, who owns (and nearly died last March on) a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 600R about your Ducati .... He said that Ducatis' are kind of like the "Ferrari's" of the Superbike World and gives it 2 thumbs up .... and my boy has many faults, but he knows his motorsickles better than most.
