Something Different

Have to drive up to Vegas tomorrow for work. Instead of taking the company ride, (an 08 Chevy Impala), I think I'll take the 08 Titan. Haven't had it on the road for quite awhile, and it'll be a lot more fun than the vanilla Impala.
I'm really looking forward to the trip now! Just me, Patsy Kline, Jim Reeves and some songs from the 80's, jamming along the deserted desert highway. Always liked driving through the Sonoran desert, it is very picturesque. This is one of my favorite drives, up through Phoenix, Wickenberg, and Wickiup, over I-40 to Kingman, then north and over Hoover Dam into Las Vegas. The scenery is just great.
Best part is, I get to see old friends I have worked with for 20 yrs and...... I DON'T HAVE TO DO THE WORK! I'm training some new field engineers on an analyzer replacement. Should take, 1-11/2, hrs tops. This is going to be a good day!

If you want to make it a real fun trip, go thru Prescott, Jerome, Sedona and take the Oak Canyon scenic drive to Flagstaff. Its wonderful on a motorcycle and should still be fun in a Titan!!

Great advice! I've done that many times before...... scenery not to be believed! Especially in the fall
Well, as you can tell, I got back about 9:30 pm local time. It was a great drive! Good to see old friends, and the Titan ran flawlessly.

Say Red, have you ever seen Toozigoot or Montazuma's Castle or lake? For those who don't know, they are ancient, >1200 yrs old, cities and ruins. Kinda sorta like ancient Egypt here in the US

Noooo. I've never heard of them. Any connection to the Anasazi? Jerome is kinda quirky place.

A couple of years ago, there was a report about a rancher and his family, they owned property on the North side of the canyon that has a "slot" canyon filled with ruins, petroglyphs, and other relics. They kept it secret for decades to keep the area from being overrun by illegal relic hunters and too much traffic from the Universities seeking to dig in the area. Have you heard about them?

I believe that they were of the same general period. Montazuma's Castle is a series of cliff dwellings that were in use for ~ 400 years by the Sinagua. Below the dwellings they farmed on the banks of a small river. The place is located in Camp Verde.
It looks very similar to the cliff dwellings of the Anasazi......

Nice drive, I drove it many times.... I just wish it wasn't a 2 lane highway much of the way....

You're absolutely right, at one time it was listed as one of America's most dangerous roads. Now they have widened it to 4 lanes in a lot of places...... Still one great drive tho'.

Hey King.... Another great drive and a place to show off the torque of our Titans is the drive from Mesa up 60 thru Superior to Globe then on thru the Salt River Canyon to Pine Top and Show Low. The engine really shows its stuff on the mountain inclines. A lot of great scenery as well......

Sounds like a nice drive, I'll have to try it.

I went to Laughlin, NV. a while back and drove the Titan. The Titan was a rocket, even on cruise control, going through the mountains, and passing cars like we were in a race or something ! Plus, I got 20.6 mpg, I was pleasantly surprised.
