Virus's and Adware problem

This weekend my laptop started giving me all kind of Virus alerts that actually looked like it came from my anti virus software but when you clicked on the warning it brought up a website selling antivirus software. So I ran a Norton scan and came up empty. Next I ran windows defender an antiadware program and it also came up empty. Went to bed Saturday and when I woke up and got on my laptop there were 56 windows open with everything from insurance to porn sites. So I went to Cnet and ran a couple of free adware programs and still nothing. So I ran a search for top ten antiadware programs and found this so I bought it. http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper/

It also came with window washer free which wipes out all your deleted info off your harddrive.

To me these malware and adware programs are viruses and I think it's sad I have to buy another program but it works so all is well

With a little foot work, you probably could have figured out what was causing the issue. Lots of times its "web downloaders" or unintended internet explorer add-ons. For most folks buying a solution is defintily the way to go, but with some research you probably could have found a freeware/shareware solution.

Now, stop browsing porn sites!

By the way, spybot is my personal favorite. (also free). http://www.safer-networking.org/ It can usually locate the problem, but in some cases can't fix it.

I tried that and it came up empty. I was trying to work on the site and didn't feel like dealing with it. By the way I told the wife to stop cruising the porn sites. LOL

Ha ha! It's weird that none of the problems came up with a spybot sweep. Hmmm... Oh well, the problems fixed anyway...

I guess it was embedded in an actual Microsft addon go figure? I do know that my e-mail is flooded now with spam so this stuff is nasty. I wasn't getting any until Sunday and now it's crazy.

What program are you using for email? If you have any kind of auto-preview turned on, that could be causing some of the problems...

Is your email address associated with this site now?

Oh. I see. You didn't do a private registration on the site, and now your email address is being scraped. Do you have the ability to change the registration info at all? Get a yahoo or hotmail account or something to put the sites name in. It won't help anything right now, but eventually it may.

If you can do a private registration, I'd go ahead and try to do that now. Your name, address, phone number and email address are all readily availible online right now.

They become available as soon as you register a domain, you can't generic this process because it has to be verified. I'm sure this spam is tied to the malware that I had which is different than adware from what I understand. This stuff is junk just ment to rip people off. None of it is legit.

Some providers offer a "privacy" package for like 5 bucks that doesn't post that info. So long as you know it's there...
