Feeling Safe...?

Now I know that a poem is not the normal fare for this forum. Still, it is an excellent example of how times have changed as have our definitions of concepts; like "Safe."

Good post Red. Its funny, I feel safer living in Detroit than most other places I lived because you know its dangerous, and actually pay attention to it.

I can remember those times quite well. I can remember when my Mom or Dad would stop and give a ride to a man in uniform. There wasn't a sense of fear.
I remember the time before seatbelts too. My youngest brother would sleep in the back window, my middle bro would sleep on the floor and I'd sleep on the back seat (RHIP) during our many long car trips.
The world was deffinately different then.

Oh well, I guess I'm old enough to remember some of this (I'm 36). I do remember that it wasn't that big of a deal to pick up someone thumbing it! I also remember, like Red said, sleeping in odd spots in a vehicle :-). The strangest spot I remember was climbing in the back window of my uncle's Stingray :-).

much better now... seatbelts save lives... insurance provides a peace of mind... and strangers can be just as ruthless and cold-blooded as they were back in the day, but we as a sociey now know to avoid naive mistakes such as letting a stranger in our car...

I still stop and help people on the side of the road, I have had a knife pulled once for doing that, but it wont prevent me from doing it in the future. (I had my 45 with me to convince him the knife was a bad idea) I get so tired of thinking that I am not supposed to be a decent human being for fear of all the evils out there I can not stand it.

Eminem, ha, haven't heard that in a while, course y'all did not know before hand, but my initials are M.M. so I hear it a lot when I am back with my friends in Texas. Actually I had the knife pulled on old 71 back in Texas, up here so far I have not had any trouble. 8 mile is nothing, I go to school on 6 mile and Livernois, now that are is getting pretty thug central.
