Nissan Recall!

Just saw it on the late night news here in Washington, D.C. that Nissan has recalled thousands of Muranos (and another model) for a faulty ignition key or switch problem. The key unlocks the doors, turns on the engine but does not disarm the alarm.

I bet that has caused a number of problems!!

HAHAHA, can you imagine that? That's the funniest thing in the world. I can just imagine me driving around at 3 in the morning on my way home with the horn blaring and lights a flashing.

Recall Schmecall...

The word "recall" gets used far too often. I would think it would be in the best interest of all the OEMs to press for better differentiation between the service campaign sort of recall (bring your car in & we'll fix it at your leisure) and the emergent sort of recall.

Blah, Blah, Blah...................what's an emergent recall anyway? The beginning of the fix or the beginning of the notification of the fix?

I think I need a nap.

I found the info and it looks like 80,000 vehicles here in the States.

I'm assuming what that blurb means is that the PATS or VATS system or what ever it's called doesn't disarm, not that when you yank the door open that horn starts blairing. If it does it won't start, the other way it will start but only drives in limp mode.

Hmmm...
"The recalls involve only models using Nissan's "intelligent keys" with integrated circuit chips inside, which allows drivers to open their car doors with their keys still inside their pockets by just pressing on the handle. Drivers don't need to insert the intelligent key to get the car to start, and can keep the key anywhere nearby."

So it very well may include the FX. When I bought my Murano that option was not available. When I test drove an FX45 and played with the smart key, I flashed on an image 15 years ahead. I was 15 years older and the service manager says "Well, it's blown and we don't have any parts. That system is 15 years old and obsolete so there;s really nothing we can do..." Next frame is my fat @$$ upside down in the seat digging around under the dash trying to short something out with a paperclip so I can drive the damn thing home....

Incidentally, the Mo has a lot more interior room than the FX, but the FX will be easier to work on. Looks better too.
