Leaf Road & Track report

As many of you know, the Nissan Leaf is an all electric battery powered car.

Perhaps the new warranty policy concerning batteries, as reported by Nascarjody, might tie in with the Leaf and its battery policies?

Anyway here is a link to an article by a Road & Track ezine reporter concerning his test drive of a production level Leaf in and around the roads of Tenn.

2011 Nissan Leaf Review – Extensive Test of the Nissan Electric Vehicle for Everyday Use – RoadandTrack.com

Sounds encouraging for those of us who envision the Leaf providing a sound first step towards production EVs. Time will tell, but it looks like Nissan has done their homework on the Leaf.

Obviously, I'm not a "green eco" person, me & my big V8 powered vehicles. In my defense though, I don't litter, I recycle, and all that other jazz.

However, seeing the Leaf & Leafs price tag has kinda changed my mind. I'll NEVER give up my V8s but, I may consider adding an electric car to my fleet to putts around town & maybe to work depending on the limits of the electric car..

the dawn of the electric car is here! won't be long till we're all putting around in electric cars and we're having to pay some crazy ass fee for a permit to drive fossil fueled vehicles. either that or retrofit high-torque electric motors into our existing vehicles. sweeet!!!

i heard Indy cars will be the first to make the switch to electric race cars... just a matter of time i heard... but coming sooner than you think!

honeykeeper must be ecstatic yet disappointed its taken so long for a car such as the leaf to finally arrive.

Actualy Hooli, there is a fossil fuel fee already. You pay it at the gas pump everytime you fill up and, like taxes, you know it will never get any cheaper than it is now!

When the time rolls around, and we are all driving an electric or some other "Green" car/truck we'll be paying a fee then too. But it won't be for gallons of gas; it'll be for kilowatts of energy, or therms, or BTUs, or cubic feet of natural gas. Like death, taxes are for keeps.

Honeykeeper is a man born before his time.

Hooli, I was just looking at your sig. Is there anything besides the doorhandles that are original Nissan Titan???

***UPDATE***

Well, we all know that some Titans, the ones with the Utiliti-Bed system have 12VDC electric outlets. Did you know there is a move afoot to make the Nissan Leaf into an emergency home generator of sorts??
Here is an interesting link to an article on just that topic. It would make the Leaf into the most expensive short term power source I've ever heard of:

Nissan Leaf can power your house for a day or two | ExtremeTech

Its a neat idea but, if your power is out in your house & the Leaf is your only car, and the car runs off the house current...... After 20 hrs - 48 hrs you'll have a dead car AND a house without electricity..... Unless power comes back on sooner then later..

Oh you are absolutely right. I never said it was practical; just interesting. With portable generators being so reasonable in price, I can't imagine an occasion where I'd convert my $35,000 car into a portable power source that would only last two days. For a couple of thousand dollars you can have complete aux power system for your home.
