Good news for Nissan...so far.

Nissan is making a big corporate gamble with the all-electric Leaf. They are taking pre-orders now for later delivery. This article says they have more orders than production capacity:

(The Associated Press)

Leaf pre-orders rise above capacity
Nissan says the automaker has received more than 13,000 orders in the U.S. and Japan for its new electric car, the Leaf, exceeding production capacity. Currently the company can produce fewer than 12,000 of the cars by next March, but is seeking to boost capacity to meet the demand. The first models of the zero-emissions Leaf will be delivered to customers in December.

Like I said, good news for Nissan.

I've been seeing more and more Smartfortwo's so I bet the leaf will do well if it's less then the Prius.

I have been seeing a lot of those Smartfortwos as well. Scary part is I see them on the freeway at rush hour. I know I'm old, but somehow the idea of jockeying for position at 70+ mph with semis and such in one of those just gives me the creeps

No way in hell I'm getting on the freeway in something like that. No giddy up and no maneuverability makes you a dumbsittingduck.

My ex-sister-in-law has one and loves it. She battles traffic into and out of Washington D.C. Frantic traffic for sure.

Despite the fact it was engineered to provide a "crash cocoon" and has been crash tested and found to be safe, I'm not positive I'd do battle on the freeways. Urban and downtown traffic seem fine, but open feeway seem all too dangerous.

Funny, I don't feel that way when I'm riding my motorcycle. More power and maneuverability I guess.

Most, mature, long time, Bike riders have a different mind set even when driving a cage. We like distance because distance is our friend. We tend to find a hole either by speeding up or dropping back and stay there where non riders seem to enjoy the safety of a pack so butt to tail and side by side is the rule.

Cage drivers will even speed up to catch a pack just to slow down to a crawl while texting, eating, putting on makeup or reading notes?

I've seen more SmartforTwo cars lately too and some of those sightings were on the freeway.. I know I wouldn't ride in one of those little cars on the freeway either, seems way to dangerous...
