Nissan and Chrysler merger

Looks like Nissan and Chrysler have been talking along with Chrysler and GM about a merger. Reports are saying that the sticking point with either merger is that Chrysler is loooking for cash and with the state of the world economy right now neither GM ($11.7 Billion cash as of June 08) nor Nissan ($4.6 Billion cash ) will consider a tie-up that weakens its financial position.

I accept that this is probably the way of the future but, accepting it doesn't mean I have to like it. Platform sharing is fine as long as each manufacturer makes enough changes to the finished product to differentiate them. The "unique" sheet metal Nissan is promising for the shared Ram/Titan will be interesting but sticking with Nissan Motors and transmissions would make it more likely for me to remain a loyal customer. I agree. The Titan is about the whole package not just the body panels.

I agree. Here's a long shot........Could a merger bring the Cummins to a HD Titan? (A true Nissan HD Titan)
I could go for that in a big way

I am still wondering if a merger between GM and Chrysler could kill the Ram/Titan deal. A merged Gensler corp wouldn't really need two full size trucks, especially in this market. It would seem likely one or the other would go away.

I think this is a time to jump into your foxhole and holler "pile-on!" Regardless of who wins the election, there is more than enough work to be done to occupy the President and his team.

I live pretty close to the edge of my finances and really don't like the thought of them eroding even further. In hind sight, I should have stayed employed a few years longer. As the old adage goes "Hind sight is 20-20!"

Things have gotten crazy fast and even with the decrease in the price of fuel, prices of goods won't be follwing suit. Milk is $3.29 a gallon here.

I hear ya' Red. I'm thinking about giving it up and retiring, but will probably keep on working for another 3-4 years. Although, even after I give up the full time routine, after some time off, I'll probably get a part time job at a hardware store or Best Buy like all of the other old guys, and make some extra beer money

I think the days of retirement are gone for good except for the very rich.

Well Squid, I've had job apps out there and no one seems interested in a 61 yo guy. Fortunately, I do have some slack and can cut back in a few expensive areas like eating out which I do often.
