Thumbs up Nissan Diesel...

Just not in America!

The Nissan D40 Navara (Titan) was delivered in Australia with either a 4L V6 gas engine or a 2.5L Turbocharged Diesel (128kw = 172hp & 403Nm = 297lb/ft) as early as NOVEMBER 2005!

Why are we sucking hind teat???

Here are some links to articles I found today:

Nissan D40 Navara ST-X 4WD dual cab ute Beaut ute for work and play, roadtests australia

In Australia, they are marketed as 1Ton trucks, and not lesser weight class. I wonder how much else is different?

After looking at the numbers, the unit seems a little light on torque...... Any word on fuel mileage?

And I guarantee you they aren't even close to meeting the EPA regulations now or the ones required by 2010 here in the States.

Oh for sure it is lower power than we are accustomed to having. Being realistic, I'm sure those numbers are sufficient for real life use. We "want" more, but we don't "need" more. And before someone chimes in; there is bound to be someone out there that really does need more power.

how true, and being a 2.4L i'd imagine the engine is much lighter than say a gas 5.6L so perhaps it translates as a benefit for diesel pumping out X amt of torque versus its engine weight and vice versa.

Now that I've given it some thought, Red, you are right. My Ol' Ferd with that 4.9 liter six and a 5 spd, was a very capable at towing and hauling, within its limits. And, it had less torque. I do wonder what the fuel mileage will be tho'. At about $3.50 a gallon for diesel here, vs $2.85 for gas, will it make sense for most folks? At what point do you break even, if ever for the extra cost in purchasing? I had considered buying something with a diesel in it, but simply couldn't justify it in terms of TCO.

Um one big snafu in this argument, the Nissan Navara is a Frontier, not a Titan. So for a Frontier this thing has quite decent power. Check the things dimensions. They are much smaller than the titans but almost identical to the 2008 Frontier. Besides the fact that they look identical.

yeah - the pictures pretty clearly shows an all cotton titan that was put in the dryer wet. It looks an aweful lot like a fronty...

OOPS! I seem to have mis-read the articles. This was the first part that confused me:
quote:
By retaining the earlier and smaller D22 Navara range from Japan with a price cut and supplementing it with the keenly priced new D40 Navara dual cab from Europe which is a full size bigger, Nissan now has the widest coverage of any light commercial range in Australia. The new D40 Navara has also leapt to the top of the class in most dimensions and specifications. end quote.

Thanks for correcting my mistake.

Would still be a rather interesting version of the Frontier though. I agree with you red, the wording is extremely confusing, and even looking up more information on the Navara they kept referring to it as full size. Must be the original Tundra kinda full size logic.
