Letter Template to Nissan RE: Carlos Ghosn

All - below you'll find the letter that I will be sending out to Nissan Consumer Affairs. I suggest you copy and paste it, personalize it, and send it out. Don't sit back and let Nissan cancel the Titan. Spend 10 minutes, and personalize this letter, and send it out. Please don't keep it exactly the same as mine. Send this letter out even if you don't have a Titan anymore, or don't even like the Titan. Canceling the Titan is bad news for all truck lovers. Less competition means higher prices and less progress towards making better trucks.

The address to send it out is in the letter header.

Dear Nissan Consumer Affairs,

I am writing this letter in regards to a December 24th, 2007 Newsweek article, "A Rock Star's Rebirth" (A Rock Star’s Rebirth | Newsweek Business | Newsweek.com). The author, Keith Naughton, indicates Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan, has hinted of “killing off” the Nissan Titan. Mr. Ghosn was quoted as saying, "The name of the game is going to be more fuel-efficient cars ... And when you make your product plans for the future, you can't say, 'I've always had a pickup truck, so I'll just keep improving it.' If you can't make it profitably, you have to get out." I couldn't disagree more with this statement.

I bought a 2006 Titan in September of 2006, and I have been extremely happy with my purchase. [See attached photo of my personalized Titan.] I've only owned Nissan pickups, and I can't imagine anything otherwise. My prior vehicle was a 2001 Nissan Frontier that performed flawlessly throughout the 5 years I owned it.

Nissan set the bar in 2003 with the introduction of the 2004 Titan truck, and it's time for Nissan to set the bar even higher. Figure out what is causing the problems with the differentials, and fix them. Nissan needs to increase their marketing and advertising budget if the Titan is to succeed. A few television ads once in a blue moon are not going to cut it. In addition, Nissan must offer a bare bones work truck for fleet sales.

We love our Nissan Titans – please do not kill the Titan! Please do not make a product with decreased quality in order to make higher profit. The Titan will only have increased sales if there is a complete overhaul in marketing and public perception of the Titan. The Titan also needs greater variation in model choices, including a single cab, bare bones work truck with a V6 or diesel.

Feel free to contact me at [email@domain.com] or (XXX) XXX-XXXX.

Respectfully,

Sadly too few Titans have been sold to warrant a continued investment. This is a business decision and not a choice of heart.

Its too bad if it does happen, but it won't be the first good product to die an early death.

I'm curious where you are getting your information that too few Titans have been sold for a continued investment. How do you know what their investment strategy is, and how many Titans they needed to sell to continue investing in it?

By the way, nice letter Jeremy! You have some good writing skills!

Agtitan06....
The recent article that Ghosn commented on cutting the Titan is based on sales figures. Original sales targets were approximately 100,000 units a year at first, wasn't to my knowledge ever attained. According to recent articles, Titans sold less than 70K units last year, which as I recall was less than 1/3 of the closest competitor.

Here is the article: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan - Autoblog

So, based on that info, I'd hazard a guess that sales figures were very disappointing and thus was a target for the axe in an effort to achieve fiscal balance.

If it isn't cut, I'll be pleased as that means my Titan's value won't tank.

The article you linked is simply an opinion on the original Newsweek article. In fact, even part of the Newsweek article is opinion. The only thing I trust is the quotes Ghosn himself said.

Well no matter what at least a few thousand letters to Nissan certainly would not hurt. Now we can only hope the titan does not become a rebadged hemi. If it does they should change its name to hemorrhage.

Thanks Squid. It's frustrating when people are lazy, and say "Oh, the letter won't help"...but how would they know if it will or will not help. At least I can say I tried. Thanks for posting the letter over here Jeremy. I had meant to post it over here, but I had forgotten. lol
Here is the one I wrote up, and sent out a few days ago:
