Tailgate light Mod

posting this here cause I can post in the how to section.
I just got done doing this so I thought I would post it up. I added the tailgate lights to my truck. First I got a set of lights that had the tailgate lights ( sorry dont have any pics of them before install)
next I cut out the section where they would shine through using a cut off wheel and a grinding stone to smooth it out.

next I painted it with Nissan paint

next I used fuel line to make a gasket and sealed it with white ****ing

then I weird it removing the rear passenger kicker panel

next I found the light green wire and spliced into it. next i drilled a small hole through the body to run a weir through.

after that I ran the wire back to both head lights and weird the bulb holder that I bought up. You can see it hanging off to the side

next I plunged in all the lights and put the my new tinted tail lights in.
here is a few pics of them during the day

and here is a pic of the tailgate light at night

sorry for not having a lot of detail just wanted to get it up really fast. Over all a easy install as long as you have the right tools and know a little about how to weir stuff up.

Those tail lights look very nice. I was surprised to see that your Titan didn't have the cut outs for the bed lighting already installed. I just looked at my '05 and it has them so the light illuminates the tail gate. I don't know if that was part of one of the premium packages or not. I have the upgrade for the Utility-bed and it might have been incorporated there.

I can't tell if you used crimp connectors or not when you spliced into the green wire. If not, you should do that to insure long life and no shorts in your connections. Wires in those areas are subjected to a surprising amount of vibration that can loosen the connections.

Thanks for posting the modification.

I did not crimp the connections but i did solder them and the heat shrinked them and then electrical taped them

Soldering is good. I mentioned crimp connectors because that is the most commonly used process.

In the motorcycle world, crimp connectors are preferred over soldering because of vibration. It was found that in the higher vibration environment of motorcycles, soldered connections, because they are so rigid, were more susceptible to failure. I don't have the link anymore, but I don't see it as a problem in your case.

very interesting but I could see what your saying because there are a lot of vibration in a motorcycle compared to a truck or car. I have always like crimp connection because of the easiness of them and I still use them when doing car audio a lot because of the tight space and all the wires.
