Beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas

Beautiful Kansas is not an oxymoron! If you're looking for a trip away from the crowds, check out the Flint Hills of Kansas. The area was featured in the April issue of National Geographic. Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, Kansas - National Geographic Magazine

Konza Prairie is a research area so no dogs are allowed. There are also bison at Konza but you have to get out and hike to see them. Konza Prairie Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program

Dogs are allowed on leash in parts of the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve - Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (U.S. National Park Service)

That is beautiful. Probably not so green during the summer months though, unless it's one of those states where you get a lot of rain in the summertime.
Do they allow Buffalo hunting? Those big guys look like they'd fill the freezer up.
When is tornado season? Wonder if it's the same as hurricane season. Well maybe the rates are cheaper.

It is pretty green during the summer... the tallgrasses like big bluestem are not even blooming yet. No, there's no hunting at Konza Prairie... but lots of whitetail deer and wild turkeys nearby. Tornado season is supposed to be between March-June.

It really is a great area for Motorcycle enthusiast. I try to get up there at least once a year if possible.

Must be nice .. our grass is golden by May usually. Higher up in the mountains, it is of course cooler and greener.

Whitetails and Wild Turkeys here too but not the Buffaloes. I'm not a hunter, but when I saw those big buffaloes on your link ... I just must have been hungry because I imagined a freezer full of Buffalo meat, instead of frozen vegetables, burritos, TV dinners, etc.

Thanks for the links.

Been in and thru' Kansas many, many times. Lived there for awhile as well. In fact, drove all through the state from Wichita 2 weeks ago for my job. I have always liked the place. People are friendly and the pace of life is pretty relaxed.

Damn! Wish I would have known that I would have drove or rode up to the big city and bought you a coffee, lunch, or just gave you a hat.

The area looks very peaceful and serene. I'll have to make a point of visiting the next time I'm out that way.

Not to hyjack, but to inform:

If you get to the Eastern part of Washington State, east of the Columbia, there is a great area of rolling wheat fields and the like that have a similar feel. The "Palouse" is truly magical about 6am when it is cool enough to enjoy the ride on a MC. I bet the Grasslands are the same.
