Ol' Coot is an ol' traveler, huh? Interesting to see how diverse and beautiful this country is despite the notion we are killing our surroundings (well, I guess we are in many ways, but that would have to go in the political discussion forum)

Not to hyjack, but to inform:

If you get to the Eastern part of Washington State, east of the Columbia, there is a great area of rolling wheat fields and the like that have a similar feel. The "Palouse" is truly magical about 6am when it is cool enough to enjoy the ride on a MC. I bet the Grasslands are the same.

I lived in Pullman for 3 years when I was going to WSU for my Master's degree so I'm quite familiar with the Palouse. The tallgrass prairie and the Palouse have a different feel although they're both grasslands. The Palouse is much more subtle, while the tallgrass prairie is just spectacular.

Wink Under the influence of gin...

I've been blessed with the opportunity to do a lot of leisure traveling in the US of A. Everywhere I go, there are beautiful sights to see. Some times it means you have to pull over to the side of the road and just gaze at far off mountains or just imagine the sights through the mists of an early morning dewy dawn.
Can anyone think of a place on this planet that has a greater diversity of climes, terrains, forests or seas, lakes and water falls? I've enjoyed every place I've ever visited and marveled at the wonders that seem to always be just around the corner.
I remember the first time I rode my MC to Arizona from Washington. Here is western Washington, the views seem to be short. We are constrained by the mountains, the trees, the clouds or fog. I remember as I rode through Utah, I commented to the inside of my helmet that this was the land of the "long view." Seemed the view encompassed forever. First time I can recall a view where the mountains were looking a 100 miles away.
Interesting bonus when riding a motorcycle, you have the most introspective conversations inside that helmet.
I was riding across Arizona from Las Vegas. Tremendous storms from the South with rain bands and lightning crackling in the distance. Scary feeling. Arizona in this region is like a billiard table. Absolutely nothing to hide under from the lightning or the gusts of wind that wanted to lay me on my side. Motorcyclists who have ridden in high winds know what I mean. In the end, I had to grin and bear it. Even if I had stopped, my MC was the tallest thing for miles, except me standing. Lightning Rod!!! It was such a relief to finally ride out of the lightning zone and turn South into the wind. Never felt so alive before.

I'll stop now, the Gin has me in its grasp and I seek sleep.

Very nice job Red! I could see the approaching storms and feel the tension. You're good.
