Trout Fishing tips needed!

Any out there fishing?

I've started fishing a lot lately, mostly trout fishing and I'm looking for some tips. I have a Pflueger Trion GX pole with a GX7 reel with 4 lb test. It's probably more of a bass pole. It's really nice but it's a medium action pole and I'm thinking I need a light or ultralight action setup. Any suggestion with a good setup in the Shakespeare-Pflueger family since these are divisions I work with.

Also what kind of bait do you use live or power bait?

Just wondering,

Thanks,
PB

Love to try it, I don't see a lot of fly fishing in our lakes and most So. Cal streams are pretty dry this time of the year. Need to head up to the mountains for that I guess.

PolarBear, you *can* fly fish lakes by wading, or using a boat or a float tube. Where are you going? I also fly fish... been years since I've used bait.

I guess if you're going to use bait for trout, have a variety of things to try: PowerBait, salmon eggs, night crawlers, Velveeta, marshmallows, etc. You're going to get mainly hatchery fish with bait though... they're not that particular. If you want to keep it simple and use one thing, go with PowerBait... it has some kind of trout attractant in it.

used and old school Ugly Stick with green power bait at Poway Lake and yanked out double-digit trout there! green power bait rules! hmmm, i'm wondering if they have blue power bait for you PB, although, i'm not sure that would be the best color to use...

and when we used to go deep-sea fishing(my favorite) we'd dump quarts of leftover clam chow-da and believe it or not it would attract the fish! some old fisherman dude, who looked like the gortons dude on the box told us that little doo-hickey of a trick

Looks like a blast but there's a pretty big learning curve, I think. Wouldn't know where to start. Took a look at some reels in our show room, nice but different. Pflueger Medalist Pro Fly Reels and the Trion IM-8 Graphite Rods was pretty cool
