Tire Discoloration

Sounds dumb, but, it's p!ssing me off.... I have a very nice set of Nitto Terra Grapplers. I have (1) tire that's turning a red/ off brownish color and I'm not sure what's causing it. Anybody else out there have that problem with their tires, or know anybody that has?? The only reason it p!sses me off is, I paid a butt load of money for them, and I don't want them to look like crap. Are there any products out there, that would bring "the luster" back to the tire? I have a 4x2, so, I have to keep my Titan looking nice; not that y'all with 4x4's don't; but all a 4x2 can do, is to look nice and pretend to be a 4x4 :-). Any advice, or help with any products that would get the "black" back in my tires would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to scrub them with a green brillo/3m pad and comet or a similar sink cleaner. I haven't tried it yet. My BFG AT KOs have this issue too, but sort of matches our red clay soil, a bit higher in the mountains. Lol

Yeah, what he said.

Be careful with the chemicals, some things (like simple green) can discolor the tires.

Make sure to get all the cleaners off, then apply tire dressing.

I've been using Teflon Tire shine for the past year or so. No sling formula, and I'm pretty happy with it.

I'll try that this weekend... Maybe it's the crap they put on my tires when I drive it through the carwash that's messed it up, dunno. Thanks swarren1!!!

Awesome, I'm going to try that this weekend.... It just looks like crap right now with the discoloration. I didn't know if it was an issue that Nitto's have, or if it's the chemicals that have been applied on them. The strange thing is, none of the other tires are like that and they all have had the same chemicals on them.

Also, I like SOS or Brillo pads for cleaning the tires too, but the scotchbrites are good too.

I appreciate y'alls replies... I still don't understand why I would only have 1 tire look like complete crap, and the others still look.

Does the afternoon sun hit just the one tire? Or a sprinkler system, (with heavy iron content in the water supply)?

Not at all... that's why it's strange that one tire is like this, and the others aren't.

All tires have serial numbers and dates of manufacture on them. You might find that if you look at them the odd tire most likely has a different date of manufacturing. Because of that, it might have been made with a slightly different compound.

I suggest you that s/n to Nitto and ask why this tire is turning odd colors. You might also mention that you paid a $$ lot $$ of money because you wanted these hight quality tires. Tell them you are not a happy camper.
