| 25th Trip To The Dealer Well I just got back from my 25th trip to the dealer. On the 1st of December I will have owned my 05 for 2 years. I have 18,400 miles on the Titan. That means I average 736 miles between trips to the dealer. I have traveled approx. 3750 miles traveling to and from the dealer. This trip I had both rear axle seals replaced, the actuator that controls the door locks for the key fob replaced(second time),They had to reprogram the fobs for this, the plastic door door latch replaced (4th time if you include the 3 new doors they replaced). Most of the repairs were minor, but extremely irritating. I have never had a problem with the engine, brakes, differentials, or transfer case, although they did do the brake fix with out me asking. When I picked up my truck from the service manager he showed me a rough calculation of the cost of the parts they have put on my Titan. He figures that they have replaced a little over $12,000 in parts not including labor. The big ticket items were the 3 new doors, and 3 passenger seats that they replaced. When you add in the dozen or so TSB's, it all adds up. My center console has also been replace 3 times. Now I really like the looks and the performance of the Titan, but it just won't hold up on our roads. Oh, and my fancy easy up/ down tail gate is busted. They had to order a new tailgate. My dealer has 8 bays in their shop, this morning 6 of the bays, actually 7 if you count my truck had Titans in them. None were there for scheduled maintenance, all were there for warranty work. 4 of the Titans were from a timber company. I talked to the forester and they are regret ever buying the Titan. He said they are in the shop all of the time. They just fall apart on logging roads. They have the same door problems I have, only they have 6 times the misery that I have had. My conclusion is that Nissan makes a great looking truck, that runs very good, but should be left on pavement. Even with all the problems I have had with the 05, it is much better than my 04 which fell apart at 9 months, 9600 miles and was bought back. I will be forced to get rid of the Titan in a little over a year as it will hit the 3 year 36 month warranty firewall. My truck runs and sounds great now, but I already have to go for trip 26 to the dealer for the tailgate. I hope I am wrong but I bet that in 700 miles or so something else will fall apart and I can almost guarantee that whatever fall apart will be something that has been "fixed" numerous times.

| My opinion is that an 1/2 ton pikup with an Off Road package should be able to handle the dirt roads of Skyhammer's ranch without falling apart. Maybe not if he's hitting big ruts at 85 mph, and getting big air at every place he can, but with moderate speeds on a dirt road I would hope an Off Road pkg. truck shouldn't require 25 trips to the dealer for repairs. Time to get your Titan PRG'd! . |

| Squid, point taken about my rambling hard to read post, no excuses. Point also taken about how timber companies treat their vehicles, you won't treat a company vehicles nearly as good as a vehicle you own your self. The major components of the Titan have held up well, although the axle seals may become a major issue. My doors, actually the windows in the doors are causing me the most problems. The windows a just to heavy and the internal door fixtures(for lack of a better word) are just to weak. If I didn't drive on the ranch with my drivers window down I would not have the problems. When driving on wash board roads with the window down, the window jumps up and down, eventually breaking the fixtures. The passenger seat wearing out and how Nissan choses to fix it makes no sense to me. Rather than fixing it, which should be easy, they replace it. It is the back of the seat that wears out and starts squeaking. Even when driving down the highway, the back of the seat vibrates, you can imagine what it does on rough roads. No one sits in the seat except my 12 lb dog. So the seat is wearing out without being used. I do notice that when someone does sit in the seat the squeak disappears. I guess the weight pushing back on the seat stops the vibration. I also don't understand why Nissan chooses to replace my tailgate rather than just replacing the easy up/ down mechanism. It has got to be a lot cheaper. As I said, I really want to like the Titan. If it weren't for the reoccurring niggling problems I would be one of the Titans biggest advocates. I would also like to thank the members who responded to my post for not flaming me. If would have posted this on another forum I would have been burned to a crisp!

| Oh no sky! I didn't mean hard to read as in rambling. I meant hard to read because 25 visits to the dealership would have me ina rage and I'm not sure If I would still be driving a Titan after two different Titans and lord knows how many trips to the service department in two years. You have way more patience than I. I had to go once for a recall and a couple of TSB's and I found that to be excruciating. |
