5 Uneventful years and now this

My power steering doesnt seem to be working. There is plenty of power steering fluid in the reservoir. Can anyone give me some direction?

You may remember I am not the sharpest pencil in the box. Is there a power steering motor that shat the bed?

Does this sound expensive?

Where the fluid is is also the pump. You might want to make sure the belt is tight and then start the engine and have someone turn the wheel from left to right and listen for any screeching or moaning from the pump. Pumps for the Titan range from $112 for refurbished to $189 for new and then whatever labor is in your area. Less then $500 if you can't do the work yourself I'd say. Maybe you have a handy friend that will do it for a 6 pack?

Have you noticed any fluid leaking from the steering rack? Any leaks near the hose connections?

I hope you keep us informed as to what the cure is.

I told you I wasnt too bright. The skidplate fell down on the highway, when I went to find out what the racket was, I noticed the leak.

The skidplate was held up with only one bolt, the other three had fallen off. Friggin oil-changers!

Thanks for the replies Squid and Red. I knew I could still bank on you for a good answer.

The skidplate was placed in teh bed before I traded the Titan in for a GMC Sierra last week. I get a car allowance from work that is tax-free but only if the car is less than 4 calendar years old. So when January 1, 2010 rolled around, the truck was paid off and the car allowance was decreased by 25% net.

I was going to try to pocket the now taxed allowance but then a few bugs kept creeping up. I realized I was taking a gamble after a neighbor's '04 Titan dropped the tranny and it was oing to cost him $4k.

SO with my buying skills sharpened, I traded it in for teh new truck which I paid invoice, less $5K in rebates ($1K was 'cuz I own a Toyota (wife's minivan)).

I loved the Titan but I am not sold on Nissan commitment to it, and 15 MPG is a little tough for someone who drives a lot of miles (about 25% of sQuids miles, heh heh).

I certainly notice the lack of necksnapping power, but I didnt really need it.

Thanks gentlemen! It has been a pleasure dealing with each and every one of you (almost). I learned more about my Titan than any other vehicle I ever owned thru the various sites we have each been involved with over the years.

I hope to keep in touch with few of you through the Yahoo fantasy games.

Thanks for everything,
Eric
