Gearing in 2010 4wd Titan

Well now that I've had the new Titan about 2 weeks, I'm noticing some differences in the 4wd vs. my old 2wd. It seems like the gearing is way lower than my old 2wd which I'm sure that it is. I've noticed that when I accelerate that the transmisson shifts kinda funny from 4th to 5th. Real short throw in between the two, then it will kinda bog down and then I can't tell if it drops back to 4th and then peaks out and shifts back to 5th. Kinda weird. I wonder if this is normal or if it is something I should get looked at?

I thought that with the Value Package, Nissan might have included the lower towing rear end. But I checked and it doesn't seem to be the case soooooo I don't have a clue, sorry

How much of a rev drop is there between 4 and 5 at speed?

A considerable ammount. I'd say that I'm probably close to 700 to 500 rpm, maybe not sure though. I'll check and see on the way home today and post my findings for sure tonight.

Sounds like you may be running the low geared rearend. As for the shift from 4th to 5th at what speed? I know our truck gets lost at between 40 and 45 so we just run around in 4th in town to stop the hunting.

Well here are my gear changes with speed and RPM's

1st to 2nd - 20MPH @ 2100 RPM
2nd to 3rd - 25MPH @ 2100 RPM
3rd to 4th - 45MPH @ 2100 RPM
4th to 5th - 65MPH @ 1600 RPM - Took me forever to get to 65MPH from the start of 4th
Final Speed in 5th - 70MPH @ 1400RPM

I didn't have my foot in it, just drove normally or how I've been driving for the break-in. I did go to the Nissan website and did find this information on the final gear ratio.

Final gear ratio (2.94:1 – similar to a 4-speed automatic 3.73:1)
Lower final gear ratio (3.36:1 – similar to a 4-speed automatic 4.10:1)

Sounds like you have real economy gears. My '05 with big tow, 4x2 runs about 1700rpm at 65. So I'd say you don't have big tow rear end gears.

you've got 2.94s... but it seems like nissan might have changed something in either the transmission itself or the fuel mapping in the ecu causing it to have less performance in that gear... who knows? just knowing your '10 titan has a 35 spline rear axle, we can be sure that more than a handful of things are new, improved and definitely different.
