Hauling a motorcycle

Here's some pics from the Honda VFR that I drove out to Pittsburgh to get on Wednesday.

These are mostly random shots that I took while we were checking out, then loading up the bike.

Hopefully, if you are planning to haul something, you can figure out how to do it from the pictures. Materials needed include one canyon dancer bar harness and some tie downs.

Nice photos. I've heard good and bad about the Canyon Dancer straps for securing a MC in a truck/trailer. ON SOME motorcycles with tubular handlebars, occasionally, the handle bar slips in the clamps, rotating downward and releasing tension on those straps.

To counter this problem, I suggest you use the CD straps and mount to the sides high up in the PU box to avoid downward pull on the handlebars. This provides a very secure side-to-side tie-down and high up on the bike where it does the most good.

I suggest for downward pull, that you use some soft straps on the triple clamp for the front and as you have done at the rear. With the front wheel solidly against the front of the PU bed, I looped one strap through the front of the rear wheel and connected to the front of the PU bed on either side. This provides a very secure connection to prevent the MC from moving to the rear. It was even more important on my MC because it is much heavier than yours and the rear wheel had to sit on the tailgate because of the storage box for the ReTrax I have mounted in my truck.

All in all, your mounting looks to be secure and well thought out.

Yup, we checked and double checked.

Basically, the Canyon Dancer loops around one grip, then runs across the center of the bike to the opposite side where there is a loop for attaching it to your tie down point.

Since rocking the bike rocked the entire truck, I figured we were good to go, and everything we stopped I gave the bike a cursory inspection.

I will say, that I paid a few bucks for the Ancra straps which are supposed to be the "best" and they are fair at most. Those red straps I've been using for everything for several years, they are beat up, and they've never slipped once.

Don't forget to leave that transmission in 1st gear!

I've got a set of aluminum ramps from pep boys. They are an A-frame type, I think I got 'em for like $50 or something.

I like 'em better than the trifold ones, because those are bigger and much bulkier.

I purchased a set of ramps that come in six pieces. I had to get heavy duty ramps as my Honda weighs 735lbs. and I need to ride it into the pick-up bed as it is much too heavy to push. I nearly had an accident when I was forced to stop only part way onto the bed. When I accellerated to move forward, it spit out the cent ramp (the one the rear tire was on) and I just managed to get it fully into the front wheel chock. Then I changed skivies!
I'm not to sure I'll carry my MC around like that again!
