Fender liner mod idea for SE and LE trucks

I've been thinking about Amy's truck... and how it has the potential to allow water/mud up into the engine compartment....

So here's my idea....

Walmart, Target, and Pep boys all see the cheap rubberized floor mats.

I think you could remove the fender liner, and cut a floor mat to cover the gap. Attaching the mat to the fener liner with pop rivets, and sealing with a silicon caulk.

The part I haven't really thought out... is how to attach the bottom of the new liner to help seal out the engine compartment. I'm thinking some self-tapping screws into the bumper might just do the trick.

Amy, you interested in giving this a try???

There are actually holes in the bumper to accept screws for the xe liners...so it should work. Better than spending $150 on XE liners...I'm game!

Got any card board laying around? Could probably mock up a liner to see if the mat would actually hit the needed coverage area.....

Another slightly more expensive option would be to get one of those bed liner mats to cut apart.

When you choose your material for the patch, I suggest you use rubber that has fabric in it. Some all rubber items tend to stretch at the holes. Installing grommets will also extend the life cycle of the patch.
