| I have the Nissan Gold one, and paid about $700 for it. I was a hard sell, as I had a SmartCare warranty on my previous car and the company went bankrupt right before my power steering pump went. During the "hard sell" in the finance office they have a lot of room to maneuver the price of them, and they are willing to deal. My position was "I paid $1500 for one of these, and I'll never see that money again because the company is gone." His position was that a water pump or alternator could potentially go out within 5 years. We found a price I could live with based on the part cost for each of those and the labor rates to install them.
They'll tell you lots of things when trying to make the sale...
Of course, Kristin had a 5/72k warranty on her Civic, and put 80k on the car in less than 4 years. Luckily they replaced her bad strut towers right before that ran out, so if you drive a lot they probably aren't worth it.
