My mother just bought a new Altima and I'm going to put HID's in that too. I can see it now - johnny law pulls over my 64 y.o. mother for sportin ganster lights. (The Altima does come with HID's on soem models - and w/o projectors to boot...)

btw - good to 'see' you again steves. I need to start hanging out here with the 'cool' titan owners...
Acutally, It's a federal DOT thing I think.... Now, that said I've had HIDs in my truck for over a year, and have never been pulled over for them... however if you're already doing something stupid it could be an extra ticket.

Those Eagle eye headlamps are DOT approved for Hids (Says so etched into the plastic) which is one of the reason I bought them. As a matter of fact they're made here in the land of Ozzzzzzzzzzz and may have a set for your Grandmas gangsta machine. I like them so much I'm waiting for them to make a set for my Heavy Duty.

As I recall the issue with HIDs was that the DOT made them illegal in any vehicle that did not come with them as original OEM equipment.

The problem stems from the design of the reflectors and placement of the bulb with respect to the focal point of the reflector.

When you compare the filament location of the typical Halogen bulb, you will see that it is in a different location than the arc of the HID. So placement is critical to proper illumination and protection to on-coming drivers.

I think there were a lot of problems in the early days of folks attempting to retrofit halogen headlight reflectors with HID capsules.
