Where's the pump!

Where is the fuel pump, in the tank? And is there only one? I've had the scenario posed that most fuel injected cars have two, a low pressure in the tank and a high pressure on the rail or there about. I believe someones confusing EFI and diesel because I've never worked on a vehicle with 2 pumps, but they were all 1992 or older.

TIA

Yes, in the bottom of the tank. With the Titan, you have to drop the tank to get to the pump.

Right, but is that the only one, or is there a second fuel pump up front. Someone told me that all fuel injected, or at least now, all fuel injected cars have two pumps but none that I've ever worked on have.

I don't think there's two. Looks like the injector just lets out already pressurized fuel at a rate consistent with combustion. Check this out for more info.

Sorry, guess I didn't make that clear enough.

Yes, there is a single fuel pump.

Most fuel injected setups have only a single in-tank pump. I don't know of any OEM setup that utilizes anything other than a single in-tank pump.

Even with big HP setups, you still normally use only one pump. You can use a fuel pump controller to pump more or less, or at least make the return line bigger to keep a stoich idle - but you still generally use just one pump.

And that's exactly my thought. The guy that explained it to him was most likely talking about diesels.
