Nissan Titan Stock Intake (Pics)

Nissan Titan Stock Intake

Or why people buy aftermarket intakes.

Below are some pics of the stock intake I removed to install the new Fram Boost. I know to some people this isn't anything special but to others who never pop the hood I thought it might answer a lot of questions and as they say "A picture is worth a thousand words!"

The first pic is of the backside of the tube that goes from the airbox to the engine. The box with the two round holes are where the engine breather hoses connect.

The second pic is the end that connects to the air box. The ridges will disrupt the air flow.

The third pic is of the side of the airbox that fits into the fender well for fresh air.

The fourth pic is inside the airbox and the tube is where the fresh air enters.

The fifth Pic shows the air filter and the dirt (or Lack of it) as evidence of the uneven intake of air.

Now follow this link to see an aftermarket CAI.

Actually, this is a pretty smart design. When dirt is ingested through the fender well, it has to travel up to the filter before the filtered air is drawn off the top of the filter and sent to the intake tract.

This gives the heavy items like dirt and water to fall to the bottom of the airbox, rather than lay on top of the filter element.

It is also a very quiet design.

Many of the aftermarket advertise themselves as "CAI" Cold Air Intake. I suspect that the stock OEM air intake system provides as cold or colder air to the intake tract than the aftermarket systems do. It is certainly better sealed from engine compartment air.

Heck when it's 100F or -10F who cares? The do allow more air and they do make it easy to check the filter and I personnally like the roar on acceleration but like you say on our trucks with out a functional hood scoop they aren't a CAI. Even the Volant isn't sucking cold air on my truck due to the fender liner.
