Thumbs up S&B intake no more vibrating in cab

This is a really long post so please forgive me if it seems like I sound long winded.

I cant remember which forum I read this but it was in regards to the volant intake and how the lid had a tendency to vibrate and it made me thinko f how the S&B did it pretty bad as well. So I was sitting in my garage staring at the stock intake think how its plastic just like the S&B but it dosnt vibrate into the cab like the S&B. So I spent a little time looking it over and figured that the stock box has three mounting points which have rubber grommets on them. These also can act as vibration isolaters as well as these are the only points of the the stock box that actually comes in contact with the fender. Now my S&B has a much larger surface area that comes in contact with the fender allowing alot more vibration to be transmited into the cab. So I figured what if I reduced the amount of surface area contact from the box to the fender. I had some left over window weather stripping I used to seal the box to the fender opening so I placed a few strips under where the box would rest. Keep in mind I had to reuse the stock mounting bolt as its longer then the one that S&B supplies, and the addition of the weather stripping forces the box about 1/4 higher. You will have to cut off the stock washer as its on there pretty good and gets in the way(I used my trusty dremel). So now that I had the strips of rubber weatherstripping down the box was essentially sitting on a row of rubber strips and no longer have any direct contact with the fender. For safe measure I lined the inside of the box and lid with layers of black duct tape to help in absorbing vibrations. First drive out I knew it worked. Before, anytime I used WOT the vibrating would travel up along the A-pilar and make my sunglasses in the headliner storage area vibrate like those old garage door sized pagers. But this time all I heard was the intake and a very small vibration in the gas pedal. But now there is absolutely no more vibration coming in the cab besides that.

I hope you don't have any of that "Black Duct" Tape on the Throttle Body side of the filter. Imagine the pain of repairs after some of it peels off and gets sucked into your engine........

Yea, I used rubber insulation versus foam because its more dense and dosnt collapse when you tighten it down like foam does over time. Its automotive grade so its much thicker then the kind you buy for you house. I got the idea after looking at the factory rubber grommets. Its been awhile now and still no vibrating. Damn hooli those new fenders look hot! Do you think I'd be able to fit 35"s if I got those fenders if I got PRG's 4" performance lift on my 4wd?

Oh no, Only inside the airbox. I thought about what you said too beforehand but I figured the air filter would keep any of the tape from going through. BUT, since you mention it I should check the airbox from time to time just to make sure none of it is peeling. Better safe then sorry.
