User Profiles

Fellow Titan Owners.

What do I know about you other than the fact you are a Titan owner or just a fan of the Titan?

Are you a butcher, a baker or a candlestick maker? Are you an old lady who lives in a shoe? Is that shoe in Seattle or Key West?

I admit that was somewhat childish, but it highlights an important part of society.

If this were a FTF group, then we would all know if Joe over there was a "suit" or "plumber" or a "truck driver" etc. These are important parts of group dynamics, just as age and sex and where you're from are.

When we talk, all these facts fill in our picture of what a person is saying; where they are "coming from" so to speak. If we all lived in the same neighborhood and met every morning for coffee at the diner, then when Tom, who we all know is a dairyman, started talking about milk shortages, we would all know this is gospel, because that is what Tom does. It adds confirmation or substance to what he says on that topic.

So, all this is a request to everyone to update your profile here on TTz. We don't want to know what street you live on, but it would be nice to have a city and state. We're not asking details of your life, but it would be nice to know if you are a butcher, a baker or a mechanic or plumber or rocket scientist. It helps everyone to under stand you and what you say.

If you have hobbies, those are nice to know. I'm a reader. Last year was a bad year for me and I only read 85 or 86 books. I had a lot going on and my mind just wasn't in to it. Since my teenage years I've read nearly a 100 books a year. Yes I'm an avid reader.

So if you've got questions on books (at least the type I read) you know who you might ask. Or travel or motorcycles or photography, whatever the topic there is likely to be someone on this forum who can speak to it.

I tried to get a section on "Who do I ask...?" up and running. It needed more participants; but, the idea was there.

So please take the time to share a little of yourselves via the User Profile. It will help your friends here to color in the image they have of you in their minds.

And you can be sure that Squid who is not going commercial has no intention of mis-using your info. Besides, unless you are in the witness protection program, what danger to you in knowing that Red Alert lives in Silverdale, Washington and likes to read?

W O W !! I was going to ask what type of books you read but 85-100 books a year! I'm guessing the subject matter varies quite a bit....

I ask that you all update your profiles to include those skills in your hobbies or professions section for all to see.

Yes, I read much more than I watch TV. 99.99% of my reading is fiction for enjoyment. You know some of the authors: Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Ken Follet, Jack Higgins, David Baldacci and other contempory authors. I also like old sci-fi and mysteries. I read only enough technical stuff these days to get by with equipment I want or end up buying.

Reading allows me to spend time in other places...

I'll update my profile sometime, but I am a 19yr old male, who goes to Colorado School of Mines, studying petroleum engineering. I reside in Golden, Co, pretty much on campus. My hobbies include spending way too much time on forums and stuff dealing with my truck, reading (tom clancy is a badass, but i have been reading lots of military non fiction lately), hangin out with friends and doing lots of random things. I play golf, tennis, volleyball. Shiner Bock is amazing and anything with meat is awesome!

I'm an Application Engineer, specializing in designing, programming and commissioning SCADA/DCS/PLC based automation systems. Do I know what I'm doing? Depends on the day.....I'm only allowed 15 minutes of brilliance a week. After that, I've got to fake it.

Aha! Gotcha! Now you think that I actually know what I'm doin'!
SCADA: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
DCS: Distributive Control System
PLC: Programmable Logic Controller
All that "stuff" means is that multiple processes that are running plant wide can actually be controlled and managed from a central plant control room. The controllers and controlled equipment are controlled from one designated control room. The control room may have from 1 to 15-20 computer screens with touch pad capability to allow for the remote changing of set points, opening valves, start/stop motors, etc, etc. Bored yet?
