I thought the rafters etc. looked like some sort of hardwood, but I would never have guessed walnut!
I guess people used the wood that was available at the time. People are amazed at our old buildings that are completely of redwood, which would cost you a fortune if you did it today.
I would give some serious thought to replacing some of the rafters etc., and using the walnut for furniture, cabinets, gun stocks and the like.
