Squid, I really like the picture of the rafters. I am curious if you know what type of wood was used?
Also, have you noticed how much romex has increased in price? Just a year ago I could buy 250' of #12 for $15-20, now I am paying $80.I just payed $150 for 250' of #10 romex.I use #10 to make long extension cords for the generator.
I am in the process of putting a 200 amp service in my new shop. I have a 200' run and it requires 3/0 copper or 250 RCM if I use aluminum. I am afraid to even ask what the 3/0 copper costs, so I will go with the aluminum. This will be direct burial.
Are you going to get a separate meter or are you going run 100 amps off your homes service panel? If you are going with a separate meter, I hope you county building department and local power company is more user friendly than mine. I had to go to our County Board of Supervisors and have them lean on the Building Department in order to get my permit.
100 amps wold not give me enough power to run my shop. Most of my equipment welders, air compressors, planer etc. are 240v.
